CHAPTER EIGHT | LONG TIME NO SEE, NORAH
♛♡♛
"It's been a while," I said, leaning on the counter, watching as people walked into Daily Grind. Xavier nodded, as he tightened his apron. The guys and Cayden were sitting on stools, sipping on their drinks.
After I told the guys about my stepbrothers, we decided to waste our time by coming to Daily Grind. I don't care how long we take, I really don't want to go home, especially after we talked about the guys.
"So," Amber asked, leaning on the table, her chin resting on her hand as her elbow supported it, "what happened to your ankle?"
I sighed, glancing over at my crutches which were leaning against the table we were seated at, "I tripped while going down the stairs. Long story short, it was painful." I told her.
"Hope you feel better, kiddo," she winked and ruffled my hair, before walking over to the people that called her over. I fixed my hair, Carter helping me.
Xavier already walked into the Staffs Only room, leaving us five alone. I took a sip from my iced coffee, as silence engulfed us. I was about to say something when Jaxon interfered.
"Where's your ring?"
My eyes widen, my hand instantly going behind my back. I coughed, looking down and fiddling with my straw.
Yeah, totally not suspicious.
"It's at home," I told Jaxon. I glanced up, not surprised that all eyes were on me. Simultaneously, all three of them narrowed their eyes at me, certainly not believing me. I sat up straighter, "Don't worry. It's at home."
"Are you sure?" Ethan asked. I gulped, nodding quickly. Both Carter and Jaxon nodded, switching their attention back to their drinks. Yet, Ethan stayed staring at me with curiosity. I gave him a nervous smile, which he didn't return. He leaned over and whispered, "You can't lie to me. I see right through."
With that, he sipped his drink pretending to act as if nothing happened. "Hey Norah, we should leave now, West might get worried."
I sighed, "Let's go then." I got out of my seat, waiting for the guys. They didn't get up though, "Are you guys coming?"
"We'll stay," Jaxon told us, smiling. I nodded, Cayden went to go pay Xavier. I got my crutches, walking over to the door. Cayden opened it for me, as we walked outside.
I was able to look at my ankle in PE because I obviously had to sit out. It was getting better, it was less swollen than the morning. I knew that if it didn't get better in two days, I probably had to go see the doctor, which I really don't.
"I hate these crutches," I muttered, making Cayden turn. "They hurt my armpits," I told him. He laughed, nodding.
"Yeah, I remember putting stuffed animals under them to prevent the pain," he told me. I raised an eyebrow and couldn't help but laugh as an image flashed in my head.
"Doesn't seem like you," I told him, still laughing. He shrugged as we then walked in complete silence.
Eventually, we got home. Cayden opened the door, and surprisingly, West was standing in the kitchen, leaning against the wall and crossing his arms. His expression had anger painted all over, giving us a hint of what he was going to do.
"Why do you have a knife?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow.
He looked at it before smirking, "Why don't I show you?"
