CHAPTER TWENTY | MORE LIKE BOYFRIENDS

I said yes.

They told me we can go on Saturday, and today is already Thursday. Carter said that I should wear casual clothing in the afternoon, but then said that it would be nice for me to dress formally at around seven. I was confused, but they clearly weren't telling me where we were going, so I didn't complain. Nonetheless, I'm extremely excited but also nervous. This is my second date, and I'm going with the people I absolutely admire, and I just don't want anything ruining it.

Today, after school, I'm supposed to go to Ethan's house for the little birthday get together we were having for Brandon. I didn't know what to get him, so I just bought him a forty-five dollar gift card from the most high-quality art store we have here.

Currently, we were sitting in the cafeteria, eating our lunch peacefully, and bringing up simple conversations. "I think we all got your brother art-related supplies," Carter announced, making Ethan nod.

"We probably did, but he'd fall in love with them. You two have seen his room, how much love he has for art," Ethan said, "you'll be able to see, Norah. That kid is a literal art geek."

Jaxon snorted, "I bet he wants to get married to his paintbrush."

We ignored his comment.

"I'd love to see his art, seeing as you said it yourself that he's amazing at it. I can't even draw a straight line," I muttered the last part, loud enough for them to chuckle lightly at. "What did you both get him?" I asked both Jaxon and Carter since I already knew what Ethan got.

"I got him a stack of canvases. He's never going to run out," Jaxon said brightly, smiling at the thought.

"I decided to get him a new easel, seeing as he only has one and it's getting worn out," Carter explained.

"Easels are usually expensive," I told Carter. "Also, how are you going to wrap it?" I laughed.

"Norah!" Jaxon suddenly exclaimed, making me jump back. "Oh my god! How could we have ever forgotten? Did you know that Carter is so rich, he basically is known for it in school. Like, our best friend is loaded as fu--," he stopped, and locked eyes with me, "sorry, I was going to say fudge. Can't have me rubbing off on you!"

"I never knew that Carter, that's great. It's just, I've never seen you with an expensive car, or designer clothes," I said, smiling, "not that I'm assuming rich people have those things, but, if you're known for being rich in school, you probably do have those things."

"My parents are surgeons, they work for a big company," he shrugged, "I guess I like being grateful for what I have, so if I'm being a brat about it and bragging about money, that isn't getting me anything and I'm not accomplishing anything. So, I like being humble."

"He's the one who got us all our jewelry," Ethan said, placing his hand on the table to show all the rings he has on his fingers. "Thanks for the things you've done, Carter," Ethan stated, smiling slightly at Carter, who also smiled back.

That's when something clicked. "Guys?"

They looked at me in unison, "The ring of the dating violation."
