One week before Clark finds Maddison

After school

"Madd!!! Where have you been!?!?"

"At school, where else?!?!"

Maybe I shouldn't have said that last part because the words didn't have time to get out of my mouth before I felt a hard hand go across my face and I ended up on the floor in excruciating pain. God I hate it when dad gets drunk. Then again, this has been his natural state of being for as long as I can remember. He jerks me back up on my feet, and slaps me again. He says, "This is for back talking me!!!". I end up on the floor again, but this time having both sides of my face in a lot of pain, and redder than a strawberry. I ran up to my room, slammed the door, and locked it. I go in the corner and look at my phone, and I just stare at Clark's contact.

I start to text him, but I kept deleting what I've typed because I don't know what to tell him, or how to tell him that I'm needing him. Under my breathe, all I say as I start to cry is, "Help me Clark, please...". I cried for the remainder of the night. Part of it was that I'm done with being at home, and the other part, I'm angry at myself for not telling Clark what has happened to me, since we said goodbye after lunch.

I didn't go to school for a few days because I couldn't let Clark see my face, and I had no idea how I'd tell him that my dad beat me because he was drunk and got mad at me. I couldn't do that to him, especially after telling him everything about me.

I text Amanda saying that dad beat me again, and I won't be at school for a few days to let my face heal. All I she says back is, "r u alright? Should I let your new boyfriend know? Get better soon. I need ur notes for class". I shake my head and chuckle a little, but man does it hurt to move any of my face muscles. I tell her, "I'm alright, for now. DON'T TELL CLARK!!!. And I'll be my best to get better". Wait a minute, how does she know about Clark? Well, it's too late to question that because I told her. I'm such an idiot sometimes.
