Chapter Two,
Things That Go Bump in The Night
As the club closed I went to find Jay. The cooling system had obviously packed up as it was sweltering in there and I was glad when we made our way outside into the cool air.
"So, anyone fancy coming back to mine?"
Oh no he didn't! Did Jay just ask everyone to come back to his, after he promised that we'd be alone tonight?
"Jay!" I hissed. "You promised!"
Jordan and Chris came over with their girlfriends hanging off them. "Yea, we're up for it. Think Mick and John are up for it as well." That must be tweedle dumb and tweedle dee's real names.
Jay just turned at tried to look innocent as he shrugged. His eyes were saying "sorry, can't back down now!" While his cruel mouth sneered at me. Like he would do anything I had asked of him.
I hung my head trying to blink back the tears again. "Come on baby-doll, don't show me up again." His voice was soft so the others couldn't hear but with a steely hard edge to it.
"I'm going home!" I surprised myself as well as Jay with those words. The sexy male voice was back in my head cheering.
I pulled my coat on as it was getting chilly and turned on my heel to walk off.
Jay grabbed my arm, yanking me back. The voice in my head growled. Or was it me? This was really getting confusing. "You can't just walk home in the middle of the night dressed like that! You'll get yourself killed!'
He had a point, I did look like rape material in a tiny skirt, thigh-high boots and a vintage 70's fury (fake) coat. When the coat was done up, it looked like I had nothing on underneath. But what he didn't know was that I was a bad-ass vampire girl who didn't fear anything. I wasn't scared of the dark, I never had been. I loved to walk around late at night, feeling invisible. You'd catch glimpses of people's life's as you went past. There was a game I played when I couldn't sleep, as I walked past peoples windows I would glance in and try and imagine who lived in a house like this. In the light, they couldn't see me, but I could see every detail of them. It was like flicking TV channels and trying to work out what the program was within the first ten seconds. It was often more amusing then the real thing. I felt safe in the dark.
"Oh well, then you can come to my funeral and say I told you so!" I slipped out of his grip, thankful of having two older brothers and a Dad who insisted on self-defence lessons. Then I turned and left quickly. As the high heels on my boots clipped through the silence, Jay had to have the last word "If you leave now, don't bother coming back!"
I raised my arm and waved without even bothering to turn back. Oh yea I definitely was a kick-ass vampire girl! I didn't even feel a thing!
Half way home, I stopped to take my boots off. They were killing me and they were making far too much noise for my liking. I was getting further away from the centre of town and the shops were turning into houses and I didn't want to draw any extra attention my way. I lived on the edge of Exeter and was now wishing that I'd taken a taxi, not that I had any money on me. Jay always paid for everything. Well I say paid. I noticed that Jay didn't really have to pay for much. Mostly people just gave him things for free in the hope of keeping in with him, or in return for drugs.
I set off again, sad that my tights would be ruined by the time I got home, I was a student and didn't have much money to spare. But it was much better then the pain I had been in.
Suddenly I was aware of eyes watching me. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that they were the same ones from the club, but that couldn't be true. That was barbie princess watching me. Wasn't it? I tensed myself and peered into the dark. Typical that some of the street lights had just flickered out, it was really dark now. I moved one of my boots across so I had one in each hand, turning the stiletto heels out as a form of weapon. I'd prefer to run, but this was just in case I couldn't, and lets face it, I was bare foot. If needs be I would go down fighting.
