Chapter Nineteen - I'm Still Alive
Once the door was closed behind me, I took my time looking round the room. There wasn't much to see, as every surface was clear, no pictures, no ornaments, nothing obviously personal, it could be anyone's room. Ohhhh an ipod docking station. Pulling my phone out of my pocket I plugged it in and set it to shuffle. Soon I was dancing round the room, getting hotter and hotter in my leather outfit. Blimey it made you sweat. Pulling off the trousers (I'd already dumped the jacket on the chair), I continued to dance round the room in my pants and tee-shirt until Pearl Jam's Alive came on. I sat and listened the words, smiling. I started it again from the beginning and sang along to the words feeling strong, playing air guitar from the top of the king sized bed, really getting behind the words "I"m still alive!"
"Son," she said, "Have I got a little story for you
What you thought was your Daddy was nothin' but a
While you were sittin' home alone at age thirteen
Your real Daddy was dyin', sorry you didn't see him but I'm glad we talked"
Oh I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey, I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey, oh
(for angelo)
Oh, she walks slowly, across a young man's room
She said, "I'm ready for you"
"I can't remember anything to this very day 'cept the look, the look
Oh, you know where, now I can't see, I just stare"
I'm still alive
Hey I, but, I'm still alive
Hey I, boy, I'm still alive
Hey I, I, I'm still alive, yeah
Ooh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh
(for Jay)
"Is something wrong?", she said
Well of course there is, "you're still alive," she said
Oh, and do I deserve to be?
Is that the question? And if so, if so, who answers, who answers?
I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh, I'm still alive
Hey I, oh I'm still alive
Hey I, oh I'm still alive
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
As the song came to an end, slow clapping came from behind me. Spinning round my feet got tangled in the bed covers, causing me to fall over. The laugh I loved came out hard and loud. Sitting up and pushing my hair out of my face, I looked over to see a very amused Angelo. "It's a good look on you!" using his whole arm to indicate my skimpy outfit and dishevelled hair. I just raised an eyebrow, daring him to laugh any more.
"I just came to say night to you, thought it was getting late and you'd be going to sleep soon......." he clamped his lips together to try and stop laughing. "I'll be up at dawn. Don't worry, I'll try not to wake you when I come in." He walked across the floor and opened a cupboard door, pulling out a spare pillow and blanket. I watched him as he put them in a neat pile near the door. "Angelo, what are you doing?"
"Just getting my bed ready. I'll sleep on the floor. Try not to wake me in the morning!" He flashed me his cheeky grin, knowing full well that once asleep, he'd need a small bomb going off next to him to wake up.
