No One's POV
"You turned it off." Klaus said. He had never seen such a different Caroline before. He had seen her laugh, cry, even kill. But tonight, he saw a totally different Caroline, and he wasn't a big fan of it.
"Ding, ding, ding. You are the winner." Caroline yelled while jumping up and down, still dancing to the music.
"Caroline, let's go. Now."
"Ugh, fine. Maybe I hit a nerve with the big bad hybrid." Caroline said, mocking Klaus's title.
Bonnie and Rebekah had already made their way back to the Mikaelson Manor. Caroline and Klaus arrived, and she made her way to the bar. Bonnie, Rebekah, and Klaus followed her in there and started bombarding her with questions.
"Why did you turn it off?"
"Let me let you guys in on a little secret." Caroline said laughing. "My mom died exactly 6 months ago today. Did you know about that?" Caroline looked towards Klaus and Rebekah, obviously directing the question towards them.
"Caroline, my apologies. I was never shared that information." Klaus said. He was very sincere about his apology. If he had known about Caroline's mother, he would've been in Mystic Falls in a heartbeat, even though it was decided that he never return.
"No it's okay, really. I dealt with it on my own, like I always do." She said while drinking her glass of bourbon.
Klaus saw the heartbreak in her eyes. She acted like she turned it off, but he knew her better than that. He paid more attention to her than anyone had in her entire life.
"Anyways," Caroline said as she put a smile on her face. She knew that Klaus had saw through her facade, so she decided not fake it anymore. She closed her eyes and in that second, she didn't feel anything. She was numb. "As I was saying," She said while pouring herself another glass of bourbon. She sat down on the table and looked at Bonnie, "Do you know when my mom's birthday was?"
"No." Bonnie replied, feeling a little guilty for not knowing the answer.
"Well," Caroline laughed. "It was yesterday!" She threw her hands up and laughed like it was a hysterical joke.
In that moment, the full of light Caroline Forbes Klaus had fallen in love with was gone. It was like she disappeared, and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. Rebekah's heart broke for Caroline.
"Want me to let you in on a little secret?" Caroline asked Klaus, with a seductive smile.
"Humor me."
"I came to New Orleans, to be with you, and the timing wasn't coincidental. I came here because I needed a change, but mostly because you were the only one from keeping me from doing what I already did. But guess what? You're with her," She said giving the death glare. "and I am utterly heartbroken. But who cares, right? No one, is the answer. I'm gonna go have fun now."
