Klaus put the car in park and went to open the driver door when he realized that Caroline had fallen fast asleep in the passenger seat. He motioned for Rebekah and Damon to go ahead and go inside and sat in the car with Caroline a little longer. He knew she was exhausted and wanted to let her peacefully rest for as long as possible. He moved a thick blonde strand of hair from her face and tucked it behind her ear. He caressed her cheek with his thumb and smiled. She was hands down the most beautiful woman on this planet and he had the privilege to not only love her, but to be loved by her. It was quite possibly the best feeling he's ever felt.
After about 20 minutes of Klaus watching Caroline sleep in the car, he decides to finally bring her inside. He takes out the keys, gets out of the car, and makes his way over to Caroline's side. He opens the door gently and quietly, being sure to not make any sound. He does his best to unbuckle her seat belt without making he uncomfortable and picks her up bridal style.
She groans for a bit but Klaus quickly assures her that shes safe. "Shhh, love. It's okay, I've got you."
Caroline quickly becomes comfortable and nestles her head in the crook of his neck. Klaus quickly shuts the car door, locks the car, and heads upstairs to their bedroom. He lays her on the bed gently. He takes her shoes and socks off and then proceeds to undress her. Once finished, he puts in her in one of his tshirts and tucks her into bed. He gives her one last kiss on the forehead before he heads downstairs.
"How is she?" Bonnie asks.
"She seems fine, exhausted for sure."
"Yeah, that's expected." Stefan agrees.
"Can I have everyone's attention please?" Klaus raises his voice. Everyone quickly looks up to him, paying attention to every word. "Um," he starts off. He scratches the back of his head, not knowing how to get the words out. "I just want to say thank you for coming out here to you know... help Caroline. I know it means a lot to her, and well to me too. I don't know if I could live without her and you made sure that I don't have to find out so, thanks."
"Aw Klaus don't flatter yourself. We didn't do this for you, we did it for her." Katherine says. As much as she enjoyed seeing Klaus thank her, she wanted to let him know the truth. She couldn't give a damn about what happens to him, but she cares about what happens to Caroline. Caroline is like her sister and if anything happened to her, it would get very very ugly. Caroline was the only one who believed there was something good left in her. She never judged her, instead, she understood her. She knew that she did the things she did out of hurt and grief. Once Katherine stopped trying to make everyone's lives worse, she became quite close with Caroline and came to good terms with everyone else.
"Yeah," Stefan states. "We'd do anything for Caroline."
Suddenly, the group is interrupted in what was a good group conversation by screams. Klaus and Rebekah are the first ones to run upstairs when they realize that the screams are coming from Caroline.
"Nooo! Stop!" She screams.
Klaus bursts through the door to his bedroom to see Caroline laying in his bed screaming.
"Please don't hurt me!" She yells.
Klaus rushes over to her side and gently shakes her to wake her up. "Caroline, you've got to wake up love. Caroline." She slowly begins to open her eyes and a single tear rolls down her cheek.
"What's wrong, baby?" He asks.
She wipes the tear away, "I can still feel it. I can feel every ounce of pain I felt when they were torturing me. I feel like I'm still there."
"Come here, love."
He embraces her and hugs her as tight as he possibly can. He hates that she's feeling this way, all he wants is her to feel safe.
