"You!"

Callie tackled her brother to the ground with an animalistic hiss. Afton's eyes widened in fear, hands raising in a futile attempt to push her off. It took the combined strengths of both Felix and Santiago to pry her hands from her brother's neck, her body squirming and kicking in their grasp.

"Well..." Aro spoke airily, still processing what he'd just witnessed. His gaze flipped between a dazed Afton, still crumpled on the floor, to an enraged Calista who was practically foaming at the mouth. Whatever had instilled such a strong reaction from her, he had to know," Afton, I do believe you have some explaining to do."

"I know you don't remember me, or who we were...but I need you to know that I did what I did out of the best intentions," Afton stated, trying to quell his sisters brewing rage.

Callie's onyx irises snapped to him and he felt a cool shiver rake down his vertebrae,"'The best intentions' - so, my feelings didn't matter, whether or not I actually wanted this - this life - were null and void because you were doing it out of the goodness of your heart?!"

Afton sighed, clasping his hands in front of him. He leaned forwards on the armchair, the fabric giving a creak in protest," You don't understand - what Darius did to you, he changed you - you don't remember the things that you should remember - fuck, you didn't even remember me until recently!"

"I'm aware of what he did, Afton - and I ripped his head off for it," Callie retorted simply, hands balling into fists on the arms of her chair as she gritted her teeth," In my eyes, you're not much better than him - he messed with my head and took everything away from you, and you - you were my brother once, and yet you took the choice to be human away from me before I had the chance to say anything!"

"Please listen to me --"

"No! For once, I won't be swept under the rug!" The brunette raised herself briskly to her feet, towering over her sibling's seated form. The door to the sitting room slowly creaked open, Felix and Demetri's figures looming in the doorway; presumably, to make sure Afton lived through this chat," I may not remember the life we lived before, or what happened in the past, but from what I do remember I should despise you! I remember seeing our home burning to ash, and what were you doing? Conspiring with a malicious, blond-haired, mind-fucking, prick!"

"It wasn't like that at all!" Afton snapped, now standing toe-to-toe with her. Felix raised his eyebrows, in all the years he'd known Afton he'd never seen such fire in him. Demetri's eyes narrowed, the urge to go over and protect his mate slowly clambering up under his skin; he knew he had to control himself, or Afton would indeed be missing a head," Darius promised me that he could give us both a new life, a fresh start, where we would be slaves to no-one! Now, I'm sorry if this seems selfish, but if you grew up watching your baby sister try to survive while being tormented by those who own her, whilst knowing you can do nothing to save her, wouldn't you want to take the offer?!"

Callie paused," Baby sister?"

"Our parents sold us when we were young, they couldn't take care of us anymore," Afton explained precariously," We were slaves for years, we grew up in silence because if we spoke we'd be punished. They tried to sell us off to other people - tried to marry you off to some Lord, but you escaped - and he sent men to burn down the village."

"Who was he?"

"I don't know - I wasn't there when the fire started..." Afton trailed off, looking to his left hand fleetingly. Callie followed his gaze, finding a silver wedding band on his ring finger, putting the pieces together; her lips formed a line," Darius had a coven, as you know, and I met my mate there - Charmian, or as she prefers to be called, Chelsea."
