Fifteen miscalls from her.

Twenty unread texts from her.

He chose not to return the calls or text her back. It's for her own good.

Still hasn't sorted out the source of leak. Gio isn't known for his patience. He has been threatened him verbally yesterday. It's better to keep Fran out of the pictures.

David closes his eyes.

How did he ended up in this mess?

Money.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

But he has no other choice. With a man like Gio, you could only say yes. Refusing him would only mean early grave. If he wanted you into his organization, saying no would only make you dead.

From hundreds of suspects, they have narrowed them down to twenty. Hopefully his head accountant could narrow them down into one.

The end of this week.

That's the deadline.

Or they both would have new cement shoes.

Gio always said Lady Liberty, NY could use few more men around her. Drowning  near Liberty island isn't his style to go down. David isn't planning to be dead soon.

"Fran, miss you..."

David shakes his head. He has deleted all of her photos from his phone. Blocked all of her calls is the hardest thing to do next.

He hates loosing her.

But he has no choice. At least she would be safe, not harmed. She's the sweetest thing ever happened to him. He won't let Gio hurt her too.

*****

That jerk blocked  all her phone calls.

Fran fed up with him. It's time to face him and ended everything. She goes to his apartment to pay him the last visit. Demanding why he let her go. At least she needed to know the reason.

A businessman and his three bodyguards walk into the same elevator with her. They are going up to the same floor as her.

The man smiles and says, "Lady first."

Fran leaves the elevator, followed by them. The man rises his eyebrows but kept his distance when she knocks on David's apartment door.

David doesn't open it.

She knows he's in there. The doorkeeper said he has been living like a hermit lately. Never left home anymore. Except for going to work.

"Damn you, David! Why are you doing this?"

Fran kicks the door once before she goes to the elevator. She needs her guest card to use the  elevator. Otherwise she would have shoved it beneath his apartment door.

The men let her pass. When she walks into the elevator, the businessman nods and one of his men enters the elevator too.

Following her like his Boss' command.

Three knocks on the door and David quickly opens the door. He looks around. Satisfied that Fran has left before she encounters the mob king himself.

Gio asks cheerfully, "Aren't you going to let me in, old friend?"

Not good.

If he's being friendly, it means he could rip your throat any moment now.

Most men would be fooled, not him. David has known him far too long. Luci has once said if he called you a friend, you should dig your grave quickly.
