1820 Flashback - New Orleans.

A funeral procession, all dressed in black, follows behind a horse-drawn carriage.

A man on a horse whips a young black boy, who screams in pain with each lash. Beside him was a young girl, around 15, being held back by a white male as she begged and pleaded the man for mercy on her little brother. She was of a lighter colour, it served her an advantage.

Klaus steps out of the procession to turn and look at the boy, taking a quick look at the young girl fighting for him. The boy, having fallen to his knees in pain, grabs an apple off the ground, turns and throws it at the man with the whip, a fierce look of hatred in his eyes. Infuriated, the man winds up for another lashing, the young girls' eyes widen, but Klaus grabs something off the ground and hurls it with vampire strength at the man; it hits him in the forehead, and he falls off the horse, dead.

He reached for another, throwing it directly at the man holding the girl back, and he falls to the ground. Dead.

Rebekah and Elijah watch as Klaus approaches them.

"What is your name?" He asks, the girl helps her brother up. The two embraced each other, closing their eyes as they hugged one another. It was a tragically beautiful thing to witness.

"Don't got one. Mama wouldn't name me till I turned ten, 'case the fever took me... then it took her." The boy speaks up.

"And you?" He asks the older girl.

"Samia." She shies away, holding her brother close.

"That's a beautiful name." He smiles gently.

"You're survivors, and survivors need names. How about Marcellus?"

"Marcellus?" The boy asks.

"It comes from Mars, the god of war, and it means 'little warrior'." Klaus stands and holds out a hand to the children.

Marcel hesitates but then smiles, and takes it, Samia stands not sure, she looks back at the plantation one last time, before putting her hand in his.

Elijah and Rebekah have watched this entire exchange.

"Perhaps there is hope for our brother, after all." Elijah mutters, watching the three interact.
