No one was home when I woke up, I was sort of glad that no one was home it just gives me time to be alone. I was getting out of bed when I heard my phone go off. "Hey, Sophia I know you're not at school but if you're not sick can you come by my house so we can finish the project it's due tomorrow." Fuck, I forgot about the science project. I quickly responded saying I'll be there when he gets home from school. I looked at the clock realizing I only had 30 minutes until he gets home. I quickly got dressed and called a taxi since I don't have a car. My anxiety started to take over when the taxi was 15 minutes late. I finally saw the yellow taxi pull up into the driveway. "You're late!" I yelled. "I'm here now aren't I." The taxi driver said. "Just take me to 1109 Woody Road." God New Yorkers can be so rude, I wonder how they even make it through life with treating people like that. I messed with the ends of my sweater while thinking that Sam probably thinks I ditched him. "Where the hell are you?" Sam texted. "I'm on your road sorry I'm late I'll be there in a few minutes." "That will be $20.78." The taxi driver demanded. I dug through my bag until I found the money. I quickly gave him the money and jumped out of the cab. I was about to ring the bell when Sam opened the door before I got a chance. "Is that a cab?" Sam asked with a confused expression on his face. "Yea." I could feel my face turn red with embarrassment. Everyone our age has a car, I was offered my parents car but I denied the offer because I don't want to remember the memories that remain in the car. "I thought you had a car?" Sam asked again. "I did but I don't anymore, couldn't afford to pay for it anymore." I lied so I didn't have to explain the real reason. "Oh okay." Sam said as he opened the door indicating I could come in. "Do we have all the stuff now?" I asked. "Yea I have it all on the table we just have to figure out how to get the damn thing to light." Sam joked. I pulled out my laptop and looked up the instructions so we wouldn't have to figure it out ourselves. Sam was reading through the instructions as he tried to build the light source with it. My stomach started growling pulling the attention away from Sam. "You hungry?" Sam asked. "Yea I haven't eaten all day." I said. "I can make you something to eat." Sam offered. "No it's fine I have some food in my bag." I opened my book bag and found some crackers. "Filling." Sam teased. "It's good enough." I said while I ate. Sam kept concentrating on the project and asking me to hand him stuff because I had no idea how to build anything even if my life depended on it. It felt like forever until we finished at 8 pm. We stood back admiring the glowing light that Sam somehow managed to turn on. Sam's phone buzzed non stop from text messages. "Want to go to a party?" Sam smirked as he looked up from his phone. "I don't know I have to get back home." It feels strange calling Juliet's home my home. I'll never get use to it but I'll have to if I'm going to be living there for a while. "Oh come on it'll be fun." Sam begged. "Okay, why the hell not." I only agreed because I didn't want to go to Juliet's yet her parents would probably just be getting home and I don't think I'll be able to hear the pitying in their voice.
