I admired the scenery of the lake as we pulled up to the house. I stared at the lake through the window, just being here made all the memories come back so vividly. "You coming?" Sam said as he nudged me. "Yeah, just give me a minute." I said. "Okay, I'll be by the lake if you need me." Sam said as he slammed the car door and walked away. I sat inside the car before getting out of the car. "Hey." I said as I approached Sam. "Hey, what were you doing?" Sam asked. "I was just thinking, I have the key to the house if you want to go in." I said as I pulled my keys out of my pocket. "Do you always have those with you?" Sam asked as we walked up to the house. "Yea, I have the key to my friends house and I added this and my old house key to it." I shook as I tried to unlock the door, dropping the keys in the process. "Fuck." I said as I went to pick up the keys. "Sophia." Sam said as he grabbed my hands and took the keys. "It's okay." Sam said as he pushed the door open. I hesitated before I stepped into the house, the air still smelled of decorative pinecones from all the stuff my mom would put out to mask the smell of the lake. I walked to my bedroom forgetting that Sam was here. My room was dark purple with black furniture and lights that draped across the walls. Pictures of my family scattered across the room reminding me that those are just memories and how I'll soon forget them. I picked up a picture of me and my family fishing. "What are you thinking about?" Sam said. "How everything that you could want was right in front of but you never appreciated until it was all gone." I laid the picture on the bed covering the picture so I wouldn't have to see it. "I can't keep dwelling on the past, I have to move on." I said as I got up and walked towards the door. "It's not the easy to just move on." Sam said blocking my path. "It's only hard if you make it out to be." I said completely losing all feeling.
