Valerius POV

Mrs. Deacon was every bit as sweet as she was tough. Exactly what you'd expect of a farm woman, which is far from a bad thing. I'm not gonna lie, I have wanted to be a farmer when I was a little tyke, but instead, my father taught me finance and how to basically rob your customers. The family business of dishonesty and manipulation for personal game. A game we all know well. Shaking the thoughts of my childhood, I concentrated on the man in front of me after we thanked our hostess and my mates new play thing. My poor wolf has never been more confused in his life. 'Mate is mine.' Ah, one of the many arguments I have been getting into with him, all stemming from that one thought. You can't exactly expect animals to understand entirely, especially for complex situations such as this. He knows of the mating mark disappearing and with every second that I stand in the same room with the guy, the harder it becomes to pin him and reclaim what my instincts say is mine.

"What are you thinking about, babe?" I ask, breaking the peaceful, yet kind of awkward moment we are having.

"Us...well, you. It's not fair to you that I just went and had sex with Eddie that night. It's not something you do to your mate." The fact that he still sees us as mates warms my heart and brings a smile to my face. "I mean it. You deserve so much better. I-"

"Uh-uh. Sorry, but because of my wolf biology, I will only mate with you and search for you. Now that I've had you, I am more motivated to figure out this crap that happened to us and how to get you back to where you were....unless, you really don't love me anymore....." That hurt to say.

"I honestly don't know. I want to say I'm still in love with you. It feels like I couldn't function without your love, but that isn't fair to you and it was not enough to help me obviously."

"I beg to differ. If anything, because I loved you, I never gave up on us, even when things were hard. I'm supposed to be who you lean on when you run out of strength, something you neglected the very day you made me promise not to hold anything back."

"You remember? Wow. Some example I've set. You do know that you don't have to sit on the sidelines for me. You have your own life and can easily get someone."

"As could you. In fact, you already have one pledging his purpose to serve you hand and foot. Other than him, because the constant giving him a pass and your apparent unhappiness as well as the question of the disappearance of our mating mark, has greatly confused my wolf."

"Oh no. I'm so so-"

"Don't! It's not your fault. I don't care how many times I will repeat myself to you. It's not your fault. Got it?"

With a sigh, he nods.

"Good. Ah-"

*ring*

"Huh. Hello?......Alpha Stan. How's my man doin? He's beautiful as the first day I saw him and everyday after, but he is still tired from the journey......You what?!!.....yeah, yeah, of course I'll come back!"

Nathan gets up as I hang my phone up. "What did he Alpha want? What happened?"

"They looked at the footage themselves that they got from the bar. They figured out that your intern buddy is the Andy person that I slept with, that day."

A measure of time extends with utter silence as my mate just stands there with no emotion other than shock. He then turns around to grab a pillow. Once he has it in his grasp, he starts punching and hitting unleashing all the frustrations he had on it.

"This...will not....satisfy my rage."

I turn my head to the door and then back to my beloved. This relationship is so weird, but I'm relatively okay now....relatively.
