Narrator POV
"Alright I think it's tuned. I am just warning you this is not going to be pretty," Camila spoke nervously.
"Come on. I'm sure it will sound great," Dinah lightly nudged the smaller girl.
Camila started forming the chords with her fingers and strumed to the familiar song Dinah knew, Little Bird.
If we take this bird in
With its broken leg
We could nurse it
She said
Come inside
For a little lie down with me
If you fall asleep
It wouldn't be the worst thing
But when I wake up
Your make-up is on my shoulder
And tell me, if I lie down
Would you stay now
And let me hold you?
Camila sang as she played the guitar beautifully almost bringing Dinah to tears. After she finished the first verse, she strummed the final chord and looked up to find Dinah smiling from ear to ear.
"Girl! Are you secretly famous in another country or something? Ya'll better bring out the hidden cameras or some crap, right? You were kidding before, weren't you? Where is the man hiding in my closet with the camera?" Dinah asked while laughing.
Camila didn't respond. Instead she looked at Dinah with a confused expression as if she had no idea what the other girl was saying. The words that were coming out of Dinah's mouth seemed strange and she did not understand what was being implied.
"Um," Camila tried to begin to speak.
"I know, I know. You didn't want to but you thought it would be funny. Can I get a picture with the tv host at least?" Dinah was almost crying she was laughing so hard.
"Umm..well actually, I never sing in front of people I just met. I have only sang in front of my closest friends in that band I told you about. My mom has never actually heard me sing to be completely honest," Camila divulged all of this new information to Dinah truthfully.
Dinah's mouth dropped open at the sound of Camila's statement. She could not believe what she heard, but she knew it was true by the tone of her voice. How could someone so talented keep something like that a secret? The vocal runs she was able to produce without any prior lessons were incredible. Her voice was so unique and almost angelic.
"Honestly..you have the most unique and beautiful voice I have ever heard besides the queen, Beyonce, obviously. You are so talented and now I should be the one that's insecure about opening my mouth to sing," Dinah spoke rather quickly.
"Come on. I know I'm not very good. Be honest, ok?"
"Ok. You're amazing. You told me to be honest and I was. I would never lie about talent."
"Well, thank you. I guess that is hard to argue with. But now it's your turn. I am sure you are way better than I am Dinah."
"That is a hard act to follow though. I think I am going to do sing 'If I Were a Boy' by Beyonce," Dinah gulped loudly.
"Good luck," Camila encouraged her.
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man.
I'd listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
'Cause he's taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed
Dinah sang her heart out which made Camila have physcial proof of being blown away by her voice. They were the goosebumps covering her body.
"Dinah Jane! Who cares about my voice when you sound like that? Did Beyonce takeover your body because you guys are like the same person," Camila blurted out.
"Oh my god. Thanks girl, but no way," Dinah replied.
"Don't be so humble. You have an amazing voice. Your range is really impressive. So, what do you think? Shall we have a jam session soon? I can bring over my guitar or you can come over if you want," Camila asked hopefully.
"With the new girl? I would rather listen to a lecture or stay after school for wood shop," Dinah chuckled.
"Gee, thanks!" Camila playfully shoved the other girl.
''Of course, for real though. We need a jam session ASAP," Dinah seriously added.
"I guess I can check my calendar," Camila giggled.
