Trickster Gone Soft [Completed]

Hi there! I got this chapter done so thought to put it up now itself. Would love to get some feedback folks. Anyway, new characters! Let me introduce you all to Carene's friends and co-workers. I hope you like them.

Night had fallen. It was time to rest to get ready for the next day. The people at the camp however, were still very restless. Many were still in shock and in denial about their loved ones whom they had lost. Maybe more were trying to locate their family and friends who had got separated from them during the quake. Then there were those who were taking care of their old and young and trying to be strong for them while silently mourning all that they had lost.
There were some who were just trying to cope with what was at hand and trying to get some rest.

There was the unsaid fear of another quake striking again. The volunteers had decided to take turns staying over at the camp each night and there could be around 4 volunteers seen scurrying about camp lending people mats and sheets or simply trying to console them.

Loki was lying down on a mat, his face towards the sky and his arms crossed behind his head. He knew that he had nobody he cared for, nor anyone who cared for him. The memories were still fresh in his mind: how he had leant of his true lineage, the pain it had caused him when he learnt that even his true parents never wanted him, his adoptive father would never be proud of him. He remembered falling into the abyss, where he had been found by the Chitauri. He had eagerly made a deal with them that he would conquer midguard and bring them the tesseract. The Chitauri would give him an army and let him rule the realm in return for the tesseract. This was his chance to prove himself. This was his chance to be king. A chance that he never had in Asgard.

As he let these thoughts fill his mind, he drifted off to sleep. No sooner had he fallen off to sleep, his subconscious mind began to weave his most feared yet denied thoughts into a nightmare.

He saw himself in chains, completely powerless, surrounded by Odin, Frigga, Thor and Laufey. All the Asgardians and Jotuns too were present.

Laufey spoke, "I don't want him! I never did. That is why I left him to die as a child. Do what you want with him. He is of no concern to me."

"He is no concern of ours either. He has bought nothing but trouble to our realm. I am ashamed to call him my brother" Said Thor.

Odin looked at Loki, "You are not my son. You are but a shadow in Thor's greatness. I didn't make you king because you are not and will never be worthy. You are a frost giant! A monster! That's all you will ever be"

Loki didn't try to oppose him or any of them, he knew they were right. Instead he chose to look at his mother. But he saw nothing but disappointment and tears in her eyes as she spoke up, "Loki, you were my son. I believed in you and loved you. But you disappointed me. You tried to deceive us and become king. You made a pact with Jotunheim and betrayed us! I shall never be able to love you the same". She looked away from him and Loki averted his eyes to the ground.

"Well what should be do with him then?" Asked Odin.

"Get rid of him"

"How?"

"Throw him into the abyss" said Thor.

"Throw him into the abyss!!" All the Asgardians cheered. "Kill him!"

"Well it's settled then. Throw him into the abyss. Let us be done with this" It was Odin who spoke.

No sooner had he said this, than all the Asgardians and jotuns began pushing Loki towards the edge of the bifrost. As he lost his balance and tripped, falling into the abyss, his eyes flew open and he woke up in cold sweat and tears in his eyes. He could not believe that no matter how hard he tried to deny his feelings of rejection and loneliness, his nightmare would still return time and again to remind him that he was only lying to himself.

He was currently lying on his mat, the same position, he had fell asleep in and he could see the first few rays of the sun seeping through the tent. Most of the people at camp were still sleeping. It would be useless to try to get some sleep now for he knew it wouldn't come. Suddenly he was hit by something- a pillow- on his stomach. He looked around to see Carene standing a little ways from him, hands on her hips and smiling.

"Good morning, Lesley. Am I to take you up on your offer to help? Or was that just a passing sentiment?"

It was only then that she noticed Loki's eyes and his pale face and she frowned in worry. Loki didn't want to appear vulnerable to her and thus he turned his face the other way and quickly wiped away his tears.

"Hey, are you alright?"

It didn't take him long to regain his composure. He turned towards her and with his smug smirk in place replied, "Well, I was until you tried to knock me out with the pillow"

Seeing as he was his usual self Carene's frown disappeared and she simply rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Are you coming to help or not? We're going to pick up food and water and would then return and distribute it. Up for it?"

"Sure. Why not." He said, getting up from his mat and walking out of camp with Carene. It's not like he had anything better to do (except finding the tesseract and taking over the world- but hey he couldn't do that without Carene anyway- so no harm done.)

"Oh, you actually got him to come?" Said one of the volunteers. Carene responded by making a victory sign with her fingers and smiling.

"Oh, by the way, Lesley that's Mia. Mia - Lesley" said Carene doing the introductions. Lesley looked at Mia who waved at him in a playfully flirtatious way,

"Hi honey, you look delicious."

"You're absolutely right, I am. How did you know?" said Loki with utmost sincerity and innocence- just before grinning widely. Oh yes this time, he was prepared.

Carene and Mia shared a look and they both broke into giggles.

"You're good Lesley. You'll fit right in!" Carene said to him with a pat on his back.

"I'm Bob, by the way."

"Oh, it's a pleasure to meet you, Bob by the way" said Loki without skipping a beat.

"Haha. Very funny Lesley." Said Bob with a smile.

"So tell me, what did she do to convince you to come Lesley?" Asked Bob to Loki (Lesley) with a suggestive smile and a raised eyebrow.

"Oh, she did something very aggressive. I wouldn't want to tell you." Said Loki in an exaggerated manner.

"Oh really? Never thought Carene to be that kind of a person" said Bob playing along.

Loki looked at Carene as though challenging her to make a witty remark.

"Oh, do not look at me like that. I might be tempted to actually do something aggressive just to wipe that stupid grin off your face, Lesley."

"Ooo" went Mia.

"You know what, I never really knew this girl before" said Bob.

"Precisely." Said Loki earning him a playful punch from Carene on his shoulder.

"Alright guys let's hit the road" Bob began giving the instructions.

Everyone became serious now.
"Lesley, Carene you guys take one mini-truck. Carene, Lesley is your responsibility. He does something wrong, I hold you responsible."
Carene nodded once at this and Bob continued, "Mia you're with me. And- where the hell are Alex and Bella?"

Just then Alex and Bella showed up, a few metres away, running towards them.

"We're here, we're here." Said Bella while panting.

"Yeah. Sorry" said Alex.

Bob nodded once at them.
"Alright guys, now that everyone's here, let's go."

Each pair got into a mini truck and began to move.
