Hello folks. This chapter is a little bit of a rough ride as I had warned before. It hurt me to write it too. Tell me what you think though. And vote if you like it, please? Pretty please? Thanks!

Happy reading!

That night when Loki fell asleep, things were different. Over the last few days, his nightmares had stopped and he had slept peacefully because the rejection he had always felt was starting to be replaced with acceptance and love.

But that night, it was not to be. As he fell asleep, his mind was pulled into a dark, empty space that was all too familiar to him: the void where he had made a pact with the Chitauri. He saw before him, their leader sitting on a high chair, cleaning the blade of his knife. Loki realised that he was dreaming, but when he tried to wake up, he found himself unable to. This was no dream, he corrected himself, this was the Chitauri leader sending him a message.

"You desire to speak with me?" Loki spoke up, his head held high.

"Yes. Yes I do" said the Chitauri leader without looking up from his knife.

"I want you to understand that I have grown tired of waiting for you to deliver the tesseract to me. I hope you haven't forgotten our pact. Deliver the tesseract to me and I'll make you king of midguard", he spoke darkly.

"What if I don't want to be king anymore?" Loki said, keeping his voice steady, even though he knew that in this place, the Chitauri leader had all the power.

The Chitauri leader looked up from his knife and stared into Loki's eyes. He rose from his chair and walked towards Loki to stop right in front of him.

"My dear prince..", he spat the words from his mouth to show his disgust for Loki.

"My dear- Fallen. Prince, I don't think you understand at all."

As he said this, he caught Loki by the throat with one hand and lifted him off the ground. Loki choked for air and tried to escape his grasp but he couldn't.

"I never said that you could opt out of our deal just because some beautiful, seemingly understanding woman has made her way to your heart" he whispered this and smiled wickedly when he saw the panic in Loki's eyes.

"Oh yes. I know all about her and about how she's making you soft and vulnerable. Sentiment. It's pathetic!"

"I...no. I'm.. I'm..using.. her. Tesseract...She knows...Will kill..her..when I'm...done" he struggled to speak since he was still being choked. He tried his best to sound convincing.

The Chitauri leader laughed at Loki and released his throat. Loki fell on the ground, coughing.

"Save your lies for someone else! Now you listen to me and listen well. You will bring me the tesseract or I will find this woman and torture her till you do. And then I will torture her some more. I will torture her to the extent that she would wish for death but I would not grant her that mercy. And all that she goes through, will be your fault. Do you understand me?"

Loki's heart ached with anger and sorrow. He was going to protect Carene at all costs. There was little he could do. He would give in to keep her safe.

"Yes. I understand you. I will bring you the tesseract. Just leave her alone. LEAVE HER ALONE" He screamed the last part.

The Chitauri leader laughed once again at Loki's misery. "Your sentiment for this woman makes you weak. And now I can use her to keep you in my power."

And those were the last words that were ringing in Loki's head as his eyes flew open and he sat up on his mat, breathing heavily. His hair wet with sweat, his eyes and cheeks wet with tears. He brushed his hand through his hair and thought about what he was required to do.
