It was dark outside. Night had fallen about two hours ago when Loki appeared back outside the camp. He had an instinct as to where Carene might be. He had afterall upset her before.

He walked up to the back of the mini truck parked a little ways from the camp and right enough he saw her there. She couldn't see him though. She was tired. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying. Her face sticky with tears. She was almost asleep.

"I thought I had told you not to come out so late all by yourself" he said.

As soon as she heard his voice, she turned around to see him. Her sad expression was immediately replaced with one of pure innocent joy and Loki felt a pang of guilt in his heart.

"I thought you had left me"

He shook his head. "I would never leave you. I'm so sorry if I hurt you"

"Never mind. You're back now" she said as she stretched out her arms beckoning him to climb up and come to her. He did. And she hugged him tightly. He hugged her back. He kept her so close to him, trying not to think about the time when he would no longer be able to hold her in an embrace, no matter how much he craved for her.

"Where had you gone, anyway?"she asked him.

"Unfinished business" he replied, not wishing to lie.

But when she raised an eyebrow at him, he replied, "Not that kind. That's only reserved for you."

She smiled at him affectionately, pulled him down and caught his lips with hers. She kissed him, passionately. She loved him. And all the sadness she had felt when he had left and all the joy she felt at his return, she expressed in her kiss. She would never let him go. And whatever his past troubles were, they could overcome them together, in the future.

He cherished each moment he spent with her because he knew they were her last.

"Carene?"

"Hmm?"

"I love you." He wasn't lying. Infact, this was the most honest he had ever been to her and to himself.

She pulled out of the kiss and looked straight into his eyes with her own beaming ones. Her face was radiant with joy.

"And I love you so much, too! I'll never let you go" she replied softly.

He smiled at her, but his eyes were sad. But before she could notice he pulled her down and buried her in passionate kisses once more.

They slept in each other's arms once again that night, in the back of the mini truck, the same way they had when Carene had first confessed her feelings to him.

Today they would live the perfect love story. But come tomorrow and they would loose it all like dust in the wind.

The next day came like it was supposed to. It was still very early and dark outside. Even the volunteers were still asleep.

Loki woke up. He looked down at Carene who was asleep on his chest, his arm wrapped around her protectively.

Here goes. He thought. This is when I'll lose everything.

"Hey, Carene" he spoke softly to her.

"Carene, wake up. I have to tell you something."

Carene opened her sleepy eyes.

"Hey Lesley. What's up?"
