Trickster Gone Soft [Completed]

And how it continues...

So I'm back! And I bring with me..a new character..Carene!! Check out the pic, that is what I imagine her to look like! Again tell me what y'all think people! Thanks and enjoy!

It had been about an hour since the earthquake ended. Loki had just managed to pull himself out of the pile of cement that he had been buried under. He was a god, not to mention a frost giant- petty midguardian calamities weren't enough to kill him.

But, that did not mean that they couldn't drain him of all his strength, causing his magic to be restrained and leave him with multiple wounds all over his body. To top that, he now did not even have his sceptre with him.

He pulled himself up, dragged himself down the stairs to the building's exit and left through the main gate. There were no shield agents around, so he figured that Shield thought him to be dead. So for sometime atleast, he could avoid the danger of being caught weaponless.

He had just enough magic to change his outfit into a midguardian one. He was now wearing a pair of blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a blue jacket- all of which were torn in places since his original outfit had suffered damage when he fell under. He also shortened his hair, put on a black cap and grey sports shoes. It wasn't enough of a disguise, but for the time being, it would have to do.

He walked down the road outside the building. After about 10 minutes of walking, he spotted what looked like a large group of people sitting scattered under makeshift dwellings. There were also people dressed in white who were providing food and water and- healing? Loki walked right into this camp- it would help him stay hidden till he regained his magic and strength.

"Hey! Excuse me sir, you seem pretty badly hurt. Please come this way so I can help you"

Loki turned his head to the side to see who had addressed him. He saw a young woman dressed in white who was kneeling beside a little boy and covering his upper arm with cotton and bandages. She glanced at him once she was done. The boy ran along his way.

"Come here, let me help you."

Loki did not move from where he was standing, just continued staring at said young woman with uncertain and contemplating eyes.

She was a young woman of perhaps 25 years. Her golden brown hair tied up in a low ponytail from which a lot of her hair had come out. She had blue eyes, a shapely nose and slightly pouted lips. She was wearing a white fitting scrub top and black leggings, her outfit outlining her figure. Her outfit had mud and dirt stains on them. She looked exhausted. She must have been helping out for hours.

She waited two more seconds, but when he did not move, she walked over to him instead. Assuming that he was in shock because of the earthquake and something dreadful had happened, she asked him gently

"Alright...What happened?"

"An earthquake. That's what happened", replied Loki in his casual smart-ass manner.

The woman looked offended by his retort but at the same time she looked as though she was too tired to come up with a smart reply.

"Yes, I am aware of that, which is why I am here to try to help out. Now will you please allow me to see to your wounds?"

"I thought you'd never ask", he says with an exaggerated politeness.

She roled her tired eyes at this, "This is the third time I'm asking. Now hurry up, I have other patients to take care of". She said this while guiding him by the arm to a stool and began disinfecting his wounds and bandaging them. He flinched at her touch and almost pulled away. But when she raised an eyebrow at him, he allowed her to continue. She was at it for about 10 minutes, cleaning his wounds and bandaging them. Eventually they were all covered up.

"There you're all done Mr..uh?"

"Uh...". How was it that he had forgotten to think up a disguise name!

"L..Les..ley? Lesley...Brown"

"..Mr Brown. Carene." She said, extending her hand and giving him a small smile.

"If you need anything, don't hesitate to come to me or any of the others in white uniforms. We're here to help. alright?

"What?"

Carene looked like her patience was just about to run out. Putting her hand down, she took a deep breath, then let it out and began repeating herself slowly

"I said, that if you need anything-"

"No. I mean..What..did you say..your name was?"

Her brow furrowed in confusion. But she still replied politely

"Oh..um..Carene. Carene Stan."

Loki's eyes were filled with amazement. Yes, he had heard her right. He couldn't believe his luck! He had over heard Barton and Fury's conversation even while being buried under a pile of cement. He knew that Carene was helping to hide the tesseract even though she might not be aware of it.

But he could not threaten her to give up the tesseract. She..what was it Fury had said?...thought herself a civilian. Assuming he understood that right, she probably didn't know that she had access to the tesseract or where it was.

No. He would have to find it out from her. He would have to understand her, her life, the places she went to, the things she did, who were her friends and why did she think herself a civilian, if she really was involved with something as powerful as the tesseract? And for that, he would have to befriend her. He would have to gain her trust.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" said Carene, snapping Loki out of his thoughts.

"Oh. Nothing. Nothing whatsoever. I... just think your name is really beautiful...just like you."
He had a silver tongue, right? He could pull this off. Flattery could win anyone over.

Carene gave him a sceptical look but then replaced it with a genuine smile. If she wasn't as tired as she was, she would have noticed how, not even 10 minutes back Lesley had been so rude to her and how he was now trying to flatter her. And how that had to be deemed atleast a little bit suspicious.

But, being as tired as she was, she decided to put it down to him warming up to her.

"That's sweet. Thank you.", she replied with a small smile.

"Carene! Give me a hand here if you aren't busy.", one of the other volunteering nurses called out to Carene.

"Be right there", she shouted back. "Gotta go now, duty calls."she said quickly to Loki (Lesley, to her).

"Sure. I assume I will be seeing you around?" asks Loki.

She nods politely and then quickly runs off to help out with the other patients.
