The next day, as predicted by Mia, had begun very early for the volunteers.
Lesley had still been in bed when the volunteers were getting ready to leave so they had decided not to wake him.
Mia and Bob had gone to co-ordinate with government officials to locate missing people and help to reunite families.
Bella had stayed back at camp in case an emergency came up.
Carene and Alex had taken a mini truck and gone to renew supplies of medicine and other necessary items like clothes and sanitary requirements.

Alex was driving while Carene sat in the passengers seat. Since she had got sleep very late last night, she was nodding off beside Alex.

"So, Carene.."

"Huh! Hmm?.." she said opening her eyes with a start.

"Didn't get enough sleep yesterday, I see" he said noticing the bags under her eyes.

"Yeah well...", she said with a yawn.

He gave her a knowing look. "If you like him, just shower him with attention, you know- if you're so opposed to telling him, that is. He'll get the hint."

"Eavesdropping were you?", Said Carene with a laugh.

"It's not my fault! You guys woke me, and then I ended up catching the entire conversation before falling asleep again"

Carene nodded. "Eavesdropping".

Alex laughed. "Whatever helps you sleep, honey. No pun intended", he said with a wink.

Carene shook her head. Alex was incorrigible. He had a happy go lucky attitude about everything. He had mischief and fun embedded in his very being. He was like a brother to her and would irritate her just because he knew he got to her. But he was also, the perfect brother- loving and supportive and a gentleman when you needed one. When Carene had become a volunteer, he was the one who had helped her most in learning the ropes.

"Oh, by the way, if whatever I heard last night is true...", he said teasing her again.

"It may not have been such a great idea to have left Lesley with Bella."

"Why?..", Carene asked absentmindedly.

"Well, you know how she can be. She barely ever even noticed me until I developed- I mean until I became good friends with Mia. But after that, she was all over me and created a lot of tension between us."

"Oh...I don't think Lesley would be wooed by her though"

"He's a guy, baby." Said Alex with a laugh.

"You're only doing this to irritate me."

Alex smirked, "Now why would I wanna do that"

Carene wanted to wipe that smirk off his face when a thought struck her.

"Oh, Alex?"

"Hmm?"

"Since you let it slip.."

Alex knew he was in trouble. The glint in her eye confirmed it.

"You and Mia, huh?"

Alex groaned which made Carene laugh.
