After one hellish week, I am lucky to have this day off. Well, it's not even a day off if Beth and I have to wait for Annie at Ruby's work. I want nothing more than to visit my brother more, but I had to cut my visit short. At least Ruby gave me coffee while we waited. I'm just exhausted from my late shift last night.
"Thank you for making me completely humiliate myself for no reason," Annie said as she walked inside the diner.
I gave Annie a tired look as she ate a fry off the plate. "Do I need to kick Gregg's ass?"
Annie sighed. "No." She scrunched up her face. "These are cold."
"They're not ours," Beth told her sister.
Annie spat the fry back on the plate, making me chuckle. "What do we do now?"
I yawned as Ruby put more coffee in my cup. "Go home and cry?" I asked sarcastically. Ruby froze and looked behind us. I gave her a confused look. "You ok?"
"Stay here," she whispered before going around.
Beth, Annie, and I exchanged confused looks before we watched Ruby. My eyes widen when the gang leader and his friends were sitting at the far corner of the diner. Holy shit! They know she works here, too. What? Are they gonna show up at Annie's job next?
"Oh, god, she's shaking," I whispered. Ruby was shaking as she talked to the guy.
"They're not going to do anything, right?" Annie asked. "I mean, it's a diner. There are people here."
I'm going to be really stupid at the moment because I got up from my seat. "I'll be right back."
"Perrie, get over here," Beth whispered harshly in fear of my safety. I ignored her and went towards the group.
"We're gonna get you your money. All of it. I swear," Ruby's voice shook.
"Now would be great," the guy said.
I don't know if my chest is pounding from my nervousness or the fact that the guy looked good today. But I did the most idiotic thing and opened my mouth.
"We would if we could," I started as I finally stood next to Ruby. "We don't have it with us. If we knew you were stalking us, then we would have had the money."
"Perrie," Ruby whispered harshly. I don't know why I had this strange feeling that this guy won't hurt me. He had the chance yesterday.
"You'll get your money," I said. "We just need more time to get it. I hope that won't be a problem." I noticed his gun just sitting casually on the seat next to him and motioned to it. "You might want to hide that. You don't know where a camera might just pick up something like that. Otherwise, someone's not getting their money."
The guy and I had a little stare down. Ruby held her breath next to me while the guys looked at their boss. He looked at me up and down before he broke his stare and gave me a little nod. Ruby sighed in relief while a little grin came to my face.
"Thank you," she breathed. So did I. I didn't realize I held my own breath until she said that.
"I'll come by tomorrow," the guy said. "One o'clock good for you? Your friend's house."
I gave him another look. "That is -"
Ruby covered my mouth. "Perfect. We'll have your money by then."
The guy smirked at us as I pulled Ruby's hand away. Ok, well, I need to go find more stuff to pawn. I gave Ruby a look. "I'll see you later."
She nodded before I made my way out. How are we suppose to get that kind of money by tomorrow? I'm already struggling because of Finn's bail and now I have to sell more stuff because of a stupid mistake. What else could go wrong?
I spoke too soon when I made it to my car and felt my body being pushed to the door. My body was yanked until my back hit the door. The gang leader leered over me, his friends not that far behind.
"Do you really think I'd let you get away with that?" he asked with a chuckle.
I tried not to show how scared I really am. "I - I was trying to make my point."
"By making me look like an idiot back there." He smirked again as he showed me the gun. "Smart advice about the cameras. Too bad there aren't none here."
His body got close to mine. "If you're here to kill me, make it quick."
If anything the guy looked amused. "Kill you? Why would I do that when your friends don't know about baby Finn." I froze. He - He knows about Finn? The guy chuckled at my shocked look and leaned closer. His breath was fanning my ear. "I've got eyes and ears everywhere, sweetheart. So if you try anything like that again, I'll make sure your friends know about little Finn."
I glared up at him as he tilted my chin up. "So one o'clock?" he asked.
"Fine," I said in a tight voice. The guy smirked at me before he pulled away and walked over to his car.
I don't know what I hate most. The fact that he knows about Finn or the fact that I got the tingling sensation between my legs when he stood so close.
