ROMAN...
"Who was the lady who was just here?" I asked my father once he entered the room. He looked very upset. "What is wrong?"
He sat in his usual seat by my bed side.
"That was an ex girlfriend of yours from the past. I was just upset because she was here pretending like she cared about you,"
I had an ex girlfriend. But the lady seemed to really care about me. The look in her eyes when I asked her who she was was nerve wrecking.
"So me and her had a rough relationship?"
"Yes. I don't even want to talk about her. Just forget about her. She's nothing but bad news,"
Wow, whatever I saw in her I don't even know or was that my type. God, I needed to get my memory back.
"When will the doctors fix whatever is going on with me?"
"We have to be patient, son,"
Speaking of the devil, a doctor walked in and requested to speak to my father in his office. My father left the room with the doctor. I turned my attention to sponge bob on the TV. Patrick was the happiest guy I could remember knowing.
My father and the doctor returned and so I turned my attention to them.
"Hey Roman, how are you feeling?" the doctor asked me like he hadn't asked me that two hours ago.
"Still alive," I joked.
"That's all that matters right now," the doctor responded. "Well we did tests to see the extent of your amnesia. I am going to spare you all the doctor jargon and make this as simple as possible for you to understand. Because of the accident, you are experiencing a brain trauma caused by blow to the head that damaged the brain,"
"So? I am going to be okay right?"
"The blow to your head completely damaged your brain. The amnesia you are experiencing is permanent,"
Mature as I was, at this moment it did not matter. I let out a loud cry of pain and sadness. My first thought was that I would not be able to remember the memories with my mother. That was what I was holding on to all this time to keep me strong but with that ray of hope destroyed by these devastating news, I had nothing else to hold on to except for my father who was now holding me in his embrace trying to comfort me. At that exact same moment, my best friend walked in. He dropped the things he had brought on the table and headed to my side.
"What is going on?" he asked worriedly but full of urgency.
"The results from the tests show that Roman has lost his memory permanently," the doctor answered his question.
Carter stood still for a while with tears trekking down his face then he turned to the doctor.
"Are you sure about this doc? You guys usually make mistakes these days. Are you sure about this?" by this time he was now shouting angrily at the doctor.
"Carter stop," my father instructed him.
"I am very sorry Roman. Please excuse me," and the doctor left the room.
"Shit, shit, shit," Carter mouthed while crying. "You know what man, we shall create new memories. Fuck this amnesia shit,"
The door once again opened and a young woman walked in looking exactly like the picture on my dad's phone lock screen.
"Anna?" I asked her.
"Yes, it's me Romie,"
Romie? Okay we needed to talk about how she should change my nickname but first I needed her embrace. She held me in her warm embrace till I fell fast sleep having been exhausted by the endless crying.
