ELEANOR.....

"I promise you am not being petty but the fact is I don't like that realtor. He seems shady," I told Bethany as we scanned the apartment, meaning each single word. I had given my best with the jokes I made but the realtor did not laugh at all. Only I and Bethany laughed at how funny my jokes were.

"I didn't laugh at the first joke you made though, so does that make me shady?" Bethany spoke still trying to catch her breath after laughing hard at my last joke.

"Well that's because you have heard it before," and I rolled my eyes childishly at her. This was the second apartment we had visited to day and still none of the apartments appealed to me.

The realtor, whose name was Fredrick, had excused himself to answer a call he said was urgent leaving me and Bethany searching the apartment.

"So what do you think?" Fredrick spoke on return. "The view is one to die for, it is well lit and talk about the close proximity to your work place,"

"Can you give me some time to think about it?" I told him, my eyes still scanning the apartment before me.

"Oh yes sure, I will go outside and make some other calls while you make a decision, no rush," he spoke before I could continue.

"No, I need like a day to make my decision," I responded. There was no way I was taking this apartment but I did not want to tell him to his face. My father had connected him to me and apparently he had put away all his other obligations for the day just to attend to me. I was not about to make known to him that he had wasted an entire three hours. Yes the apartment was everything he said it was but something was missing.

Bethany and I left the apartment and walked to the parking lot where both our cars were parked. Bethany had spent her lunch time break to join me in my search for an apartment. I was honestly glad she had joined me. Who knew finding a place to live is this hard? I thought since I was being assisted by one of the best realtors here in Washington DC, everything would be simple. Ooooh, it was far from simple. The first apartment felt congested, the second one felt too well lit. Or was I just being petty. I have had an unprecedented record of being petty.

"Okay, what exactly are looking for in an apartment?" Bethany asked me while she drew her car keys out of her enormous hand bag. "I felt both places were amazing," she continued.

"I honestly don't know what am looking for. I think I need the apartment tooo...," I dragged the last word trying to find what to say.

"This is you being petty," Bethany spoke at the same I said, "call out to me,"

"Huh?" she questioned.

"Yes that's it. I need the apartment to call out to me, to speak to me and none of the ones we visited today did,"

"I hope this is not an excuse for you to keep cramping my place. You need to move out," Bethany told me as she got in to her car.

"If only you knew how much I wanna get out of your ancient place and find myself a modern living space. Every time I go to your place, it's like I have entered a time capsule," I spoke full of humor and by this time Bethany was smiling with her hand on her mouth as she tried to prevent herself from bursting out in laughter.

"I am heading back to work," she spoke and drove off.

I was left in the parking lot wondering where to go next. My plan for the day was visit the apartments and go shopping for household items. Well that's because I thought I would find a place I liked. Since I had not gotten a place yet, I was left wondering what I would do with the rest of my afternoon.
