It was unavoidable that one day I would not be sharing a life with Lu Kai.

I wasn't stupid... It was clear that night when he drunkenly confessed to me all those things, he liked me in the way that Xiao Feng mentioned, for the man must see the woman as a woman to come together in a marriage. A bit embarrassing to think about... I'd never saw myself as a woman who could fall in love nor be loved. Just someone who wielded a sword in this chaotic world. But my own heart... it kept leading my dreams and thoughts back to him. That I should be protecting him, holding him, and existing with him, however the Fidelity Oath was eating at my will to live.

Wu Dufeng asked me if I loved Lu Kai, that I must be falling in love with him. I tried to deny it, denied the longing in my heart which desperately craved to be nourished. Honestly, I was afraid that the lit candle, if touched, would be extinguished, and I would be left with nothing in the darkness.

Watching the massive waterfall, I stood on the bank of the stream. Taking refuge in a small cabin by the river, it dawned on me that three months had already passed by. Of course, I wondered how Lu Kai was living. It was the first time in years that we'd been separated. Although it pained me to be apart from him, I knew that he was old enough to take care of himself, and I needed to think of my health.

"I brought you food." Wu Dufeng had a food carrier in his hold.

"I can feed myself," I told him without turning around.

"You go days without eating, how can you do that?"

I sighed, "There's no one to cook for."

"You still have to feed yourself. Your powers can't suppress hunger for long."

Right. Even with my cultivated powers, I still suffered mortal plights. After all, I was human.

We walked into the small cabin, and he opened each containers of food. My eyes were mesmerized by the plain fried pancakes in one of the sides.

"How's the pain? Has it gotten better?"

"Mmm."

The distance helped. Temptation of desires were hindered, all accept for the yearning thoughts.

"Wu Jing keeps an eye on him. They're not up to anything."

I laughed, "Sure."

Wu Jing, the gambling con artist, and Lu Kai, the charming philanderer, just what could they be up to that was not a bit sketchy?

Using my chopsticks to place a pancake into my mouth, the oily substance reminded me of the pancakes Xiao Kai used to cook for me.

"Plain but to my liking..."

Confused, Wu Dufeng asked, "What?"

"Are you sure he doesn't know I'm here?"

"He doesn't, although persistent in trying to find you, I haven't told him. There is something--"

Unexpectedly standing, I placed my chopsticks onto the table and said, "I'll go to him."

"What are you saying?"

"I've decided. I'm going to stop hiding. I have to be true to Lu Kai."

"But the Fidelity Curse will consume your heart, and you will die..."

Smiling to myself, I explained, "Spending a few years happily with Lu Kai is better than miserably living locked away for the rest of my life."

"Then you better go to him."

"Of course, that doesn't mean you can slack and not find a way for me to overcome this."

"Just what do I owe you?"

"I'm leaving!"

Accelerating my steps, I traveled to the small village. The clenched fist around my heart did not stop its crushing hold for one moment, but the butterflies in my stomach fluttered with excitement as to indicate that I was making the right choice. The right choice in choosing happiness.

Be with Lu Kai and love him wholeheartedly.

With what could have been days of travel turned into mere hours due to the powers of speed I used. Still during the day, I managed to reach the village. The small roads were barren but brightened with the color red. Ruffled cloths hanged like roses. Following the path, noises of celebratory cheer pounded into my ear drums. Firecrackers went off as people happily conversed and smiled.

What's happening?

"Why have you only come now?!" Aunt Meng pulled my arm.

"What's going on?" I asked her with us squeezing through the crowd.

Into a humble home, she dragged me inside the living space. Staring at a young man dressed in red, I finally understood.

I came just in time to witness Lu Kai's wedding ceremony.
