"Hello?" I said with raspy voice. My phone rang at 5 am today. Who the heck is calling at such hour?
"Hi (Y/n), it's Erick. Sorry for waking you up, but I need your help." Said the man on the other side. I was wide awake instantly. Erick is my coworker and he's... you know, the one I like at the studio.

"Why so early?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.
"We're going to be seeking out to achieve something very important today... and we need a cameraman. Are you down?"
"Double pay?" Erick sighed.
"I'll buy you lunch tomorrow."
"Deal."
"Awesome. I can pick you up at 6."

And here we go, Team Edge OGs, my crush and I, huddled in Bryan's car, heading to Ventura, for surfing lesson without a teacher nor any experience. Luckily, I'm just the camera dude, I don't need to go in the water, so I didn't bother with the swimsuit. The guys got their surf gear and soon we were at the beach. I wasn't talking much, while the guys were vlogging everything. I was trying my best to not stare at Erick, who was sitting next to me. Thankfully, he was too excited for the surfing to pay attention to me.

We did a little scouting over the beach and situated in the rocky place between the high waves, where pros were surfing and no-waves zone. Casual waves at the high tide looked good to a bunch of amateurs like us. Maybe with one exception... no living soul was swimming there. It was a peace of the ocean that was completely empty. I had some doubts about this.

Guys hit the water asap. Bryan and Joey went first, Erick and I stayed at the shore.
"Hey (Y/n)?" Erick was landing the drone, while I kept looking through the photos I took. "Are you ok? You look worried."
"Erick, is this a good spot to swim? There are literally no people here." I confessed.

"Everybody is at high waves, because they can surf and we cannot." He replied with a smile. "We have high tide instead."
"I don't know, dude."
"Guys are killing it right now, it can't be that bad."
"Just be careful, okay? I can't lose another friend like that."
"What do you mean?" He asked, then I realized what I just said.

"Forget about it. I'll better get the cameras ready."
"You gotta; if the waves will shred us up, you better have that on video."
"Hey, don't say that." I stated.
"Don't worry, we'll be fine." He said and gave me a quick hug before heading to the ocean. UwU. I was surprised, yet that's the best thing that happened to me today. After I almost told my crush about my little trauma.

A few years ago, one of my friends drowned and I was a witness of that. Shortly, that's why I'm so worried about the guys swimming in the unknown waters. Bryan came back to the shore, he looked exhausted.
"What's up, Bryan?"
"This is a workout." He panted. "Plus the waves are like, pulling us into the middle of the ocean. I think we might be at low tide soon." I listened to his statement.

"Btw, did Erick hug you?" Oof, the subject switched unexpectedly quick...
"Oh, yeah, he did. It was really sweet."
"He likes you, (Y/n)." I felt a nervous urge run through my body.
"You think so?"
"Positive." And right now, it was a solid Try not to fangirl Challenge for me.

Erick's pov:
Bryan returned to the beach and handled me the board. My turn. I'm not sure how I feel about this. I wanted to play the brave one, but honestly I'm just as scared as (Y/n). Surfing sounds cool until you're in the water. I hope I didn't embarrass her with that hug. I just... I just had to.

*two big waves later*

"Erick is getting trashed right now." I heard Bryan yell from the shore. This is a lot harder than it looks. I tried to vlog the whole thing, wipping my face from salty water, but when I wanted to lay down and catch a breath, I saw another wave coming.
"Hold on!" I pushed up, but I was knocked over anyways.
