I remember that day vividly. The day when Michael confessed his love for me by smashing his lips into his mine, while taping a video for a family friendly channel. The day, when my attitude turned 360. How did I end up being loved? I was literally a bully; I'd always pick on Michael and make fun of him just to get his attention. I was positive he had a hatred for me, but kept around cuz he just tried to play it cool. On the outside it looked like I didn't care, but the truth was I loved the dude.
I remember running out of the studio, following the muffled shouts of the crowd. I squeezed my frame through the group of employees who ran after Michael, and was now looking around the parking lot. It didn't take long until we found him sitting under a tree, hiding an embarrassed face in his hands. I remember crouching next to him, worried as I never was, and placing a hand on his shoulder.
"You ok there, man?"
"I'm sorry, (Y/n). I didn't- I didn't mean to."
"No, it's okay. I'm sorry too, Michael. For the all-time cold shoulder." It was a sad moment, when confusion and shame were tearing our pride and splendor apart. I hugged Micheal who was still sitting by the tree and promised I'll never pick on him like that again. He had no hatred on me whatsoever and I was more that amazed for not being rejected.
Back in the day it felt like I didn't deserve that. Thankfully that changed over time. It's been 5 years since that incident, Michael helped me figure my feelings out and by now we got married. Time really flies;our wedding was almost yesteryear. But it still feels like it was yesterday.
Currently, as I'm telling you this story, I am standing at the mall with eyes and throat sore from crying, choosing between shops and second-hands. I finally found the one clothing shop I was looking for. I was about to design the shirt of my dreams.
Lately I've been feeling... odd. I had weird pains I've never experienced before and I was really dizzy from time to time. My husband was at work for most of the day, so I kept it for myself. That was until my friend, who was already a mom of two, told me that there was a possibility of me being pregnant.
The same afternoon I bought the pregnancy test. I went back home, to the bathroom and few minutes later I left the room crying. But they were happy tears. I did the test and it said "positive". Me and Michael were going to be parents.
My throat and face were still sore from crying when I left the house again and to the nearby mall. I was going to prepare a surprise of life for Michael. Unfortunately, most shops were closing early today and there wasn't much to choose from. Duh, there was NOTHING to choose from. Most shops were closed, when I was leaving the mall... except the knitting store by the exit. Suddenly an excellent idea popped into my head. I bought a black shirt and a lot of white, thick thread. Tonight's going to be busy.
I went home and got to work right away. Like most workaholic girls having too much spare time I've learned the art of embroidery. I thought telling my husband I'm pregnant via fancywork would be a unique and adequate way to do so. He deserves better than the "bun in the oven" joke. After everything he has done for me, I had to make this surprise perfect fot him.
Surprisingly, the night came fast and I had to hide my little crafting table and unfinished product before Michael was back home. This night, I could barely sleep... so I snuck out of the bedroom and carried on with my embroidery. I didn't realize when I fell asleep on the table.
Michael shook my shoulder gently. I batted my eyelashes, and I was about to get up, but then I remembered what I was laying on. I scattered the shirt deeper underneath my head.
"Hm?"
"(Y/n), what are doing, hun?"
"Nothing-"
"Have you slept at all?"
"Y..yeah..." I mumble tiredly.
"Aw, (Y/n). You gotta take care of yourself, sweetie. Come on, let's go to back to bed." He went to pick me up, but I caught on the table and refused to unglue from it.
"What's wrong?"
"What time is it?"
"7:40 am"
"What? Michael, you should be at work!"
"Got 20 minutes left. Plus, I'd rather be with you and make sure you're okay, you're my wife after all." He bent down and kissed me softly. Aww, my man. "Are you gonna go take a regenerating nap now?" I looked down at the present, which was practically finished, and smiled at the whole situation.
"Sure, but first... I've got a surprise for you."
I started getting up as I clutch the shirt to my chest, so he can't see the front part of it. I handled it to Michael, who seemed really confused, but politely took the piece of fabric. "I appreciate that you went to check on me instead of going to work, and now I know you're quite in rush, but before you go I want you to put it on and don't look at the print."
Michael opened his eyes, not looking down at the shirt, instead he started changing.
"What is it, (Y/n)?"
"Just put it on." I pulled out my phone and pressed recording as Michael threw off his pajama top and wore the new piece of clothing. I pointed for him to look in the mirror, getting mixed between anxiety and excitement more every second. He finally looked.
"Read it!" I encouraged him.
"Be nice... be nice to me... my wife is pr-" he froze. Well, it was the moment that everything froze.
Michael examined the fancywork, dozing the realization that hit him.
"You're pregnant?" I nodded energetically, now feeling the miraculous joy of being a future mom filling up my body.
"Are you for real?! Don't mess with me-"
"I'm not kidding, I found out yesterday." Michael put the shirt aside and walked up to me, looking like he was going to cry. I awed and hugged him, he embraced me and I swear I heard a quiet sob.
"Aw babe, are you happy?"
"Are you kidding me? I'm going to be a dad!" He let me go and bolted into the hallway, shrieking victoriously and jumping around joyfully, almost flying across the house in his happiness outburst. Couldn't help but smile at this adorable view.
I turned back for a sec and handled him the shirt when he calmed down a little. Well I tried, but he jumped at me and nearly tackled me in the hug, but was I complaining? Absolutely not.
"Thank you, (Y/n)." He mumbled into my shoulder. I kissed him on the cheek, practically melting and was finally able to give him his shirt.
"Now head time work, sweetie. At least you have some groundbreaking motivation." Idk if "groundbreaking" was the right word, but I was a puddle of emotions at this point and couldn't pick right ones. Michael took the shirt, restyled his whole outfit in 30 seconds and left home. It wasn't long until I got a tsunami of texts from his colleagues (which I was friends with).
