Everyone is in shock. Lionel is horrified, Depression is confused, and Grayson is stupefied. Thomas turns around, and when he sees Virgil laying there, he runs to him.
As Virgil bleeds, he desperately tries to keep himself alive for Thomas's sake. "Virgil!" Thomas exclaims. He slides on his knees to Virgil and holds him. "Virgil,"
"Sorry, kid..." Virgil mutters.
"What? No!" Thomas stammers as tears stream down his face.
"I thought I could take the shot to save you."
"Quit it, Virgil, you're not gonna die!" Thomas looks over to the other three sides. Serenity's already in tears because of what he's done. He drops the gun and sinks out. "Right, Lionel?" Thomas hopelessly asks.
Lionel shakes his head in confusion. Depression stands still, dumbstruck. Lionel walks to Virgil and Thomas and leans down.
"Virge... I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry, too, Lie." Virgil whispered. Then, he stops breathing. His head rests peacefully against Thomas's chest as his eyes stay open. Lionel takes a few steps away to try and compose himself.
"Virgil? Virgil?! Wait, No! Please!" Thomas desperately cries out. Lionel leans down again and tries to console Thomas by holding him close.
"Thomas, Thomas, he's gone." Lionel puts an arm around him.
"No! He can't be!" Thomas sobs.
"It's okay, Star." In this moment, All of Thomas's stress fades away. He's totally calm. Depression finally decides to speak up.
"While this was not supposed to happen, my objective has not changed." As Depression talks, he slides the pistol towards him with his foot.
Thomas stands up with his face still wet from tears. Depression picks up the gun and points it at Thomas. "You having Anxiety won't matter anymore." After losing Virgil, he's had enough. Thomas punches Depression in the face and picks up the gun that he had dropped.
"Wait wait wait, don't, Thomas!" Depression yells with horror shot across his face and a bloody lip.
Thomas unhesitatingly raises the gun and shoots Depression through his heart. As his body falls to the ground, he has no regrets.
"Uh, Thomas?" Lionel says. Thomas turns his head, and where Virgil was once laying, he sees him there again, only not how he once was.
He was standing. He was dead, but now he's standing, smiling at him. He didn't recognize him at first, since he was wearing his old suit and cape with lighter eye shadow. Thomas felt like himself again. Finally.
"Virgil!" Thomas runs to him and they hug in pure satisfaction and relief. With glossy eyes, Thomas detached himself from their hug and looks at Virgil while smiling. "Y-You look... different! I mean, it's good, it's a good different!" Thomas says, gleaming. Virgil chuckles.
"Really?"
"Yeah! I mean, you look cooler! Well, not- I-I mean, not that how you looked before wasn't cool, I like how you looked with the purple hoodie and all, 'cause i-it really fit you, well, not like how it fit you, you can fit in to anything because you are just, totally a beautiful person." Thomas sputters, at a loss for words. "Well, not that you're a person-"
"Thomas!" Virgil exclaims; Thomas looks up from the ground with wide eyes. "Thank you." Before either of them say anything else, Thomas notices Virgil's one grey eye.
"Oh, wow..." Thomas says in astonishment.
"What?"
"You're eye!"
