The Emerald Within

Chapter 10

        It was later that night, before anything else really occurred. Sonic was walking though a meadow-like field, until he stopped, sighing deeply, "Is this the spot?" Sonic looked around, as if to be waiting for a reply.

        Yes... This is the spot... But... It was Tikal, and she sounded worried about something. What do you think will happen to you?

        "I'm not sure, but..." He pauses, remembering what he heard might happen, although it might not be the same way, "But if it's something bad... It'll be all worth doing for my friends... And everyone else..."

        Especially Shadow, huh, Sonic? Sonic blushed slightly at Tikal's comment, not able to find anything to say as a reply to that. I've been hearing you thinking about him a lot lately... It's nothing to be ashamed of...

        "Yea..." When he said that, he closed his eyes, sitting down, "I don'tknow why, but... I've been thinking about him allot..."

        Just be patient, though... Almost as soon as she said that, a small white light appeared, disappearing to reveal an echidna, similar to how Knuckles looked, but somewhat younger... Ken(Knuckle)... Sonic opened his eyes, jumping to his feet, and was about to say something, but was interrupted by him.

        "I all ready know..." Ken sighs, walking over to him, "But... I, sadly, am not very experienced, well... This would be my first time, so... Are you sure about this?"

        "You and that squirrel are the only ones that can do this, that is anywhere close to Mobius... So... Yes..." Sonic sighs, slightly looking away.

        "Wait!" It was Shadow's voice, as he came to where he could see this, but it was to the point of too late, all ready, however, a wave of energy caused Ken to get shoved back, and he fell to his knees.

        "Positive energy?!" Ken yelled in surprise, "But I thought you couldn't use energy attacks, at will, like Shadow!"

        "Unfortunately, yes, that is true, but I'm not using just any positive energy, Ken..." Sonic chuckled deeply, crossing his arms over his chest, "I'm using the very life-force of Sonic... So you better not try anything, or you, and he will die..."

        "What is he talking about?!" Tails yelled, and Ken only sighs lowly, "Ken! What's going on?! Why did he say that?!"

        "Robotnik, the squirrel, must have thought this through, or this is just some sort of lucky accident..." Ken sighed, slowly rising to his feet, "When he tried to use the emerald, it was put into Sonic, but it also contained some of him in it, as well..." Ken confirmed, as if it was the most obviuos thing in the world, "Robotnik wants nothing more than to be the most powerful being in existence, so... By getting rid of all who are against him, he will achieve his goal..."

        "Sonic, always ruining his plans, much like the human Robotnik, was his first goal... Then all who accompanied him will follow the same fate..." Shadow finished, "And this was the way that we might not have predicted from the events..."

        "That's not bad..." Sonic sighed, looking as though he was depressed, "But that's what everyone thinks about me, not as in Sonic, but... Me... The one who wants nothing but power... But... It's all lies..."

        "What do you mean?" Tails questions, receiving a glare from Sonic now.

        "Why would you care?!" Sonic yelled, doing the same wave of energy at Tails, but Ken blocked it, falling to his knees again, "Are you really..." Sonic also falls to his knees, his eyes half open, "Wanting... To die...?"

        "You don't have to worry..." Ken put a hand in front of him, getting Sonic to widen his eyes slightly, as A wave came from Ken, making an outline around Sonic, then a quick flash of white light, and the Master Emerald was beside Sonic, who was on his stomach, unconscious.

        "Sonic!" Tails ran over to him, followed by Shadow, attempting to lift Sonic, but gasps lightly, as he seemed... Lifeless, "Sonic..." Tears were built up in his eyes, as he buried his face into Shadow's chest, silently sobbing.

        "He's ok..." Shadow sighs, but sadness was apparent in his voice, as he spoke in a low tone, as he removed Tails, checking to make sure, finding it negative, "Sonic... You have to be ok... You have to..." He did a low growl, trying to hide the sadness further, but his eyes were watering, making Tails surprised by the sight, "You can't be dead!!... You can't be..."
