The Emerald Within

Chapter 9

        Back at Tails', the next day. Shadow was sitting on a bed, and Tails was sitting in his lap, facing him, cuddling into his chest, recieving a very confused look from Shadow, "Tails... How long are you going to sit like that?" Amy questions, feeling somewhat jealous of him, at the moment, and even more so, when Shadow spoke instead.

        "Tails is fine..." Shadow's tone was of uncertainty, within itself, as he refused to show any other sign of sympathy, as he was leaning back slightly, propped somewhat with his arms, "At least he quit crying..."

        "Yea..." Was all that Amy replied with, joinging them two on the bed, sitting as close to Shadow as possible, "Now that that's out of the way..." She moves her hand over, so she was touching Shadow, but it is uncertain on where that might've been... Only a look of slight discomfort from Shadow showed that it was somewhere that he preferred it not to be.

        "I'm going to check on... Knuckles... Ok?" Tails flew off of Shadow's lap, and out of the room, leaving the two in there... ... Alone...

        "I am worried, though..." Amy says suddenly, breaking the silence, sitting where Tails was, and how Tails was, also snuggling her face into his chest, "What if we miss the chance tonight? And he never gets better?"

        "And I should care, why?" Amy seemed surprised by his responce, looking at him, her eyes widened slightly.

        "Why would you say that?!" Amy yelled, finding the expression obvious that he was also worried about him, and maybe even more than her, herself, "If it were you, then he would've cared! How could you be so... Mean?!"

        "Well... It's not, so we don't have to worry about that, now do we?" Shadow questions in a harsh tonne, looking away, finding it hard to keep the stray thoughts from coming.

        "But you do care, don't you?" Amy questions him, not recieving a reply, only a soft sigh, "You know that... If something were to happen to him... Then you, along with most... Especially ones close to him... Would be sad... Don't you, Shadow?" Her voice was starting to break off, as her eyes were now watering, at the very thought of something bad happening to him.

        "I just..." Shadow's voice was low, as he began, but, he was interrupted by Amy, anyways, who's voice was now clear again.

        "Don't want him to be gone..." Amy seemingly completes his sentence, "I think it'll be best if we tried to find him, before tonight, right..." Shadow nods slightly, and they stand, well... Shadow stands, lifting Amy up, and places her down, before walking about, Amy sighing, before following him out on a mission... ... To find Sonic...
