Cath stared in silence at Hatta.

Her rage told her to order Raven to chop his head off.

But the empty space where her heart was told her... to trust.

Trust in what?! There's nothing left!

The blonde-haired girl was also staring at Hatta. Probably for another reason entirely, but Cath hadn't lost her natural curiosity.

"Miss..." Cath began.

"Alice." Hatta spoke up.

Both Cath and Alice looked at him, surprised. Ches and the march hare both dropped their teacups. Spilled tea dripped across the table, then onto the floorboards.

Raven turned back into a man. "And how do you know that?" He asked. Cath would've described him as suspicious, but Raven hardly ever showed any emotion.

Hatta's eyes went blank. "I... don't know..."

Cath rubbed her forehead. "Very well, then. Miss Alice, would you please follow me?"

The girl turned to Cath, hesitated, then shrugged and nodded. "Okay."

Raven watched from a branch of a tree as Alice and Cath walked and talked.

It was the first time, for Cath, in a long time.

"Why are you here?" The Queen of Hearts asked.

Alice twirled a bit of her hair. "Well, I followed this rabbit- he had a clock- and fell into a hole--"

Cath interrupted her. "I asked you 'why', not 'how'."

Alice looked up at the older lady. "I- I don't think I understand."

"Why are you here? Is it chance?" Cath asked. "Or is it fate? Because fate cannot be deterred. I learned that lesson wholeheartedly." She finished quietly.

"You did?" Alice repeated. "Whatever do you mean?"

Cath smiled grimly. "Do you really wish to know?"

Alice nodded.
