By the time Cath finished her story, Alice was in tears.

"No." She sobbed. "It's so cruel. It just can't be!"

Cath sighed as they continued walking along. She no longer felt pain. What was the point? But she felt she owed the girl an explanation of some sort.

"I guess... it was just something I saw in his eyes." She sighed again.

Alice bit her lip, suffocating her tears. She looked up. "Miss Hearts..." She began. "Do you want your heart back?"

Cath froze where she stood. Alice followed suit. "Do I? Whyever would I need it?"

Alice frowned deeply, trying to come up with an answer. "Because, I think... a heart is what makes you human."

Cath contemplated that thought. For some reason, she desperately wanted to believe it. But there was no way she could ever get her heart back. Those girls from the well had it.

She voiced the thought.

Alice twirled a strand of hair around her finger. "Maybe... I could go ask them for it?" She suggested.

Cath reacted violently and began walking once again. "No! Never! You must not do that!"

Alice staggered back in shock. "Y-Yes, Miss Hearts." She stepped hesitantly forward once again. "But perhaps there is some way of getting it back?"

Cath hesitated. To be honest, in her darkest moments she'd wondered if there was a way. And she'd found one, should she ever need it.

She carefully weighed her answer, then said finally, "You could ask Time."
