Good. Time mused, pacing. The girl, Alice, has begun her dream, her adventure.
Now he simply had to wait for her to arrive.
He looked to Jest, the dead rook, also watching, waiting with wondrous questions, he was sure. But all would be explained in Time.
Yet it all depended on the girl. If she could find him. If she could survive in Chess, and find the three girls of the well and of fate. Those would be hard enough on their own.
To find Time, she would have to step out for a moment, out of Wonderland but not into her own world. She'd have to step into the shadows between worlds, where Time lived, flowed, forever-ish. It would be difficult, and she could not stay long, or she'd arrive back mad as a hatter.
To survive Chess, she would need Jest. Even Time it- himself, did not know exactly what was wrong with that land. Timeless, how disappointing. Chess needed Alice. But the Queen Of Hearts had declared it illegal to travel between the two lands.
And the sisters of the Treacle Well had disappeared, and no one had found them, regardless of how desperate Certain unnecessary, necessary things had been taken with them. Alice would need to get them back. But first, she'd have to find them.
These are not the nightmare parts of her dream, Time thought sadly.
He walked to view Wonderland with Jest. The shadows of Time seemed to swirl, as if they also felt worry for the young Alice in Wonderland.
Not these, but after. After is always the hardest.
