Part 1

Abigail: Fire

I watched my family head towards the tent.

"Don't stay up too late," my father said, before closing up the tent with a familiar "z-i-p" of the tent door.

I let out a small sigh as I stared down at the still-roaring fire. I smiled as I picked out shapes in the orange flames; and every now and then, I played with my compass. A small breeze caused my fiery red hair to brush over my freckled cheeks while I stared at the compass.

I faced the wind to get the hair out of my face. At that moment, my eyes widened at the sight of a glowing red figure. Its orange eyes stared back at me. His hands and feet seemed almost nonexistent, nothing but points. I stood slowly, slipping the compass back into my pocket. The figure suddenly dashed off.

"W-wait!" I yelled, before sprinting after it. As leaves shuffled and crunched under my feet. the red figured started melting into the dark shadows of the trees. I followed him to a clearing, where I quickly glanced around for a glimpse of the glowing creature; but I couldn't see him anywhere. Not only had I lost sight of him, but I was completely lost. All I knew about my whereabouts was that I could see the stars and the moon. I was panicking, because I had no idea which direction to go to get back to the campsite.

Suddenly a boom blasted out! A strong gust of wind flew from my left. It bent the top of the trees and forced me to block my face. I looked up to see a yellow ray of light. I couldn't tell where it was coming from, but I knew it ended somewhere in space. I looked up at it for a few seconds, when a red light caught my eye. Could it be the creature? No, instead my eyes focused on a small pendant. The pendant's design looked like a small flame, and it shined bright red - just like the creature.

I was drawn to the pendent, but hesitated to take it in my hand. As soon as I did, a light - just like the yellow beam - surrounded me and lifted me off the ground. The light surrounding me was red - just like the pendant and the creature I had followed.

I let my arms raise beside me as I looked around and tried to balance in the air. The pendant slipped out of my hand and floated in front of me before putting itself on my neck. The red beam then started to wrap itself around me. It created such warmth, like being put into a toaster. The beam enveloped my whole body and slowly worked its way up to my face, causing me to close my eyes. Now I couldn't tell if I was being set down or raised higher - until my feet hit the ground and I was slowly lowered to my knees.

I could feel the beam leave my freckled cheeks kind of like a sheet being pulled off my face. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around me. It took my eyes a second to adjust. I was still in the same place. The beam was gone, but the warmth still surrounded me.

I looked down at my lap to see the red beam still wrapped around my legs. It looked like a tight suit with little zippers. A small round object poked out of one of the pockets. I went to unzip the zipper and stopped, noticing yellow gloves on my hands and the red beam wrapped around my arms as well. I took a deep breath to keep from losing my cool. I unzipped the pocket and slowly pulled out the object. It was my compass. I looked down at the arrow that pointed towards the yellow light.

It was then I noticed my reflection in the small glass protecting the little arrow. It was me; but my eyes were a vibrant blue, instead of the dull gray they normally are. My red hair looked like small flames that framed my face perfectly. I had never looked this beautiful. I could barely believe it. I gasped lightly and studied how I looked.

I felt a small flame start to burn inside me. I smiled a bit. "Since there was no going back now, I might as well follow the arrow...right?" I thought, and got on my feet. I looked down at my complete outfit and smiled. It fit my body perfectly and reminded me of a super-hero suit. "I'll follow the arrow to the yellow beam." I nodded lightly to myself at my thought. "No going back."

I took my first step towards the beam and smiled some more. Then I took off; leaving the small clearing and my family behind.
