Before we get to the reflection, how do you feel about Hoseok's death a few chapters back? I'm sorry lol

Anyways, I will go through the story and reveal all the hidden meanings and the general theme. This is going to be long and won't probably make any sense so prepare thyself.

ּ General theme:

I came up with this plot in the middle of the night and decided to make it into an actual story. I actually wanted to make this a Yoongi fanfiction originally and as I started to write this I realised that Hoseok would suit better. To be honest, this book was supposed to be only fluff and no angst whatsoever but- oh well. Also, I love the way I ended the book cause it's the same two sentences from the very first chapter sksksk

Anyways, back to the point. Val is very insecure, closed off and she suffers from an eating disorder. She seeks comfort and love but when she does receive it more than enough from Hoseok, she feels like she doesn't deserve it. She continues to push Hoseok out of her life but soon she realises that Hoseok is actually a sweetheart with no real intention to hurt her.

And Hoseok, he is an actual sweetheart. Both in this book and in real life lmao. He suffered from dementia which is a chronic illness which leads to losing of memory. He too has a lot of insecurities and suffers from depression because of his illness. He develops a crush on Val and wants to help her get over everything.

But he fails. As I mentioned in the last chapter, Hoseok didn't really make a huge difference in Val's life. Even though Val truly did love him he did nothing to cure her depression. It was all her. She did it on her own.

The clicker is just an equipment which was used to connect the two souls together.

• Profound meaning :

I didn't think of this from the beginning but as the story progressed I began to think a lot about it. The story doesn't necessarily need to be taken this way but-

Val is, in fact, the main character of the story and Hoseok is a part of her imagination. But not really cause in the beginning the teacher is actually aware of his presence. But if you think about it, Hoseok is just a part of Val.

At the beginning of the book Val starts to discover herself hence the exchange of words between Hoseok and her. Then as the story progresses, Val opens up to Hoseok consequently opening up to herself.

- Hoseok is the part of her that she wants to get rid of. The evil side of her. The insecure side of her.

- Val's mother is also a cruel side of Val and later on Val lets go of that side of her. [ in accordance to Chapter 39 ]

- Hoseok's mother is the good side of her which is why Hoseok's mom is the only reason she eats.

And eventually Hoseok dies which means the evil side of her dies too which is the reason why she's finally happy. She is left with Miss. Jung which is the good side of her.

I'm sorry if this makes no sense lol

• Hidden signs :

The name 'Valerie' means strong and independent which I thought was very ironic for the character hehe.

The clicker that Hoseok gifts Val is in the shape of the sun. And the philosophical meaning of the sun is new beginnings.

The recorder that Hoseok's mom gives Val has a crescent engraved to it. And the philosophical meaning of the crescent is also new beginnings.

When Val visits Hoseok at the grave she carries a bouquet of chrysanthemums. And the meaning of that is also- you guessed it- new beginnings lmao.

This isn't exactly hidden but in Chapter 40 if you read the words in bold in order you get 'I promise you'll never have to fall again.' which is also the epitaph on Hoseok's tombstone.

A U T H O R ' S N O T E :

This is not a love story.

This is a story of self love, overcoming insecurities and stepping out of comfort zones.

It may seem like overcoming all of this is easy but it's not. It takes a lot of courage and a lot of time. One person can't change anything. He/she may help, but in the end it all depends on yourself. Trust me on this.

This story will forever hold a special place in my heart cuz I projected a lot of myself into both Val and Hoseok. I hope you love my characters as much as I do.
