Little nine year old Cheryl Blossom had recently lost her twin brother, Jason. Oh how she missed him. But she knew he was in heaven. She knew he was with the angels. She knew he would be looking down on her, even though she didn't completely understand it.
After his death, the whole family struggled. They were grieving in their own way. But her mother, Penelope's grieving was effecting more than just herself. It was effecting her daughter Cheryl too. Truth is, Penelope couldn't cope with losing her son. The pain was unbearable. She would look at Cheryl, and she would see Jason. She had always favoured Jason over Cheryl. Now her daughter was a constant reminder of him, of the great loss. She couldn't take any more pain. One day, she chose to change this. It was the day that Cheryl's life took a completely different path...
Cheryl gripped her bear tightly, whilst sitting in the car with her mom. She was going on an adventure. At least, that's what she thought.
"Mommy, where are we going?" Cheryl waited but got no response from her mother. She decided to ask again. "Where are we going, mommy?"
"Be quiet, child." Her mother said, not in the nicest tone. Cheryl noticed this, but chose to ignore it and focus on the journey ahead.
The car came to a stop. Penelope told Cheryl to get out of the car and that's exactly what the small redhead did. Upon doing so, she took note of the small details of the place. The building looked old and dirty. It looked like it had been neglected. Some of the windows were smashed. It wasn't what Cheryl would have imagined she would be doing, and it wasn't the magical place she was expecting, but she knew she would be able to have some fun. After all, it was an adventure.
"Come with me." Her mother stated in a demanding tone. Cheryl smiled and skipped along, following her mother's steps.
They entered the ancient building. Cheryl's mother stopped and began talking to this unknown woman. Cheryl didn't recognise the woman, but she did notice her appearance. The woman had short ginger hair and bright blue eyes. They made her think of the ocean. The young redhead didn't know what this woman was doing here and she didn't know what the woman was wearing, but she was sure they could become friends. Young Cheryl thought the woman seemed nice. Penelope nodded at the blonde woman and soon walked away, back to her car. Cheryl went to follow her mother but was stopped by the mystery woman.
"Don't follow her. Follow me, Cheryl."
"But what about my mommy?" The inncoent child asked.
"She is just going to buy something from a shop." The woman strechted out her hand for Cheryl to take. "Now come on dear. Take my hand." The young girl questioned how this person knew her name. She soon put it together that her mother must have told her and said to look after Cheryl whilst she went to the shop. Being the innocent child that she was, Cheryl took the hand of the woman. Her other hand was locked around her bear. She gripped it tighter than you can imagine. That young girl would never let it go. She would never leave the house without it.
After what seemed like an eternity of walking, they came to a stop. There were several seats. In one of them, was another child. It was a boy. He seemed slightly older than Cheryl.
"Please sit, Cheryl." Said the woman.
"Okay." The young redhead gladly followed the nice lady's instructions. "When is my mommy coming back?" Cheryl received a stare from the woman, who avoided answering her question, before leaving Cheryl alone, with yet another stranger. Her mother hadn't talked to this young boy, so she tried to avoid talking to him.
"Don't you know?" Cheryl heard. She turned to see that this young boy was talking to her. She might not have wanted to speak with him, but she was curious of what he was talking about.
"Know what?" She asked.
"Your mother...she's not coming back for you. If she brought you here, it means she doesn't want you anymore or she never wanted you and only now she is getting rid of you. " He explained, yet the redhead refused to beleive him. Her mother would never leave her. Would she?
"No. My mommy wouldn't do that. She loves me. And she always comes back." Cheryl assured herself.
"You wish. She doesn't care about you. That's why she sent you to this dump."
"No, you're wrong. She loves me. She does care about me." Cheryl responded, getting slightly upset at this mean boy.
"You can keep telling yourself that, but give it a week or so and you'll know that she's not coming back. Ever. " He continued.
"Leave me alone!" Cheryl yelled, pulling her teddy closer to her face. The little teddy always gave her a sense of comfort.
She could see this boy laughing and she couldn't understand why. What he said wasn't a joke and she didn't find it funny. Cheryl didn't trust what the boy had said, yet his words stuck with her, even though she didn't want them to. They replayed in her mind for days, weeks. Until, finally she realised that he was right. It had been a while and there was no sign of her mother. Not one. The young redhead once filled with hope, joy and excitement was now filled with fear, sadness and loneliness...
