~three weeks later~
Toni's POV
Cheryl and I had been hanging out as much as we possibly could. Anytime we were allowed outside or anytime we were allowed out of our rooms to draw, we had spent together, ever since we first started talking. And every moment that we had been hanging out together, my heart was beating faster, I felt more nervous and I still didn't fully understand why. I was confused. I had never felt anything like this before.
~at lunch time~
I grabbed my tray of food and turned to face the tables. I looked around until I spotted a familiar redhead who was waving at me. I made my way over to her, making sure I avoided any objects that could make me knock over my food. The food may have been disgusting, but it was all we had. I could hardly go and buy a bar of chocolate or a bag of sweets from a shop.
"Hey you." I greeted my friend. "Sleep well last night?" I sat down opposite her.
"Same as always really. So not too bad. But I really can't wait for another exciting day here." She said, in a heavily sarcastic tone. "I honestly have no idea what I would do without you here. You are really amazing, Toni. Thank you for being so kind to me." I felt my cheeks warm up. Was I blushing? I put my chin in my hands, ensuring my red hot cheeks were covered by them. Luckily, Cheryl hadn't noticed. But why was I blushing?
"What's gotten you like this?" I asked.
"I don't know...I just feel like I don't show you enough how much I apprecaite you. You make living in this dump much better." My heart beat was speeding up at each word she said. This feeling was overwhelming and had never happened to me before. It only seemed to happen around Cheryl. But why? What did it mean?
Cheryl's POV
"Aw thanks Cher. You make living in this place a lot better too." Toni smiled. There it was again. That crazy feeling I get every time she smiles. I'm still confused about it, but I think I'm starting to understand it more. Or maybe I'm not. I didn't really know. We sat in silence for a moment, just looking into each other's eyes. I swear I could look at those gorgeous brown eyes all the time.
"Hey guys." Fangs said as he joined us, taking the seat next to Toni, snapping me out of the weird moment I was having.
"What you two been talking about?" He questioned me and my taller friend.
"Not much. Just that we didn't sleep great and can't wait to eat this green slop!" Toni explained as she played with the food, catching Fangs up with the conversation. I laughed at her words. Toni never did fail to make me laugh. She would always try and say something funny, I guess to take away the pain of being here. I still don't know why she's here, but she knows why I was brought here. I had asked her before, and every time I did her eyes filled with sadness before she quickly changed the topic. I guessed that she didn't want to talk about it, and as a good friend I respected her decision.
"Yeah I hear you. This place is hardly a five star hotel." Fangs sighed as he ate a spoonful of the dreadful food. We all chatted as we ate. After a while the nuns sent us outside. Fangs went off to play football again whilst me and Toni went to sit under one of the trees, so that we were shaded by the sun.
Toni's POV
Cheryl and I were sat under our usual tree, laying on our backs and looking up at the sky. The leaves on the tree were blocking the sunlight from hitting us. We were doing our usual little game of saying what shapes and objects the clouds looked like.
"Oooo!" Cheryl exclaimed excitedly. I then reached for her hand and connected it with mine. "That one looks like a dolphin." She pointed at it and my eyes followed her finger.
"I mean...yeah...I guess it kinda does." I looked around until I saw another interesting shaped cloud. "That one over there looks like a heart." I mumbled.
"Oh yeah you're right." Cheryl laughed. Her laugh was so cute. She sounded so happy and innocent right then, and it made me happy too. I looked around for other strange clouds and that's when I saw one...shaped just like a car. But not just any car. It was shaped like the car...
