~about 2 weeks later~

The young redhead was sat in her dark and gloomy room. A nun had taken her straight to this room the day she arrived and she had barely been allowed to leave it since. At least, that's how it felt. It felt like a prison. The only times she had been fortunate enough to get out of her room was to draw. The walls of the room were grey and dirty. The bed wasn't comfortable. Everything was way worse than you could imagine. This was not a good change. She had gone from a girl who used to have everything, to a girl who now has nothing. This was a change she did not like and it was a change she couldn't accept. However, it was now that she began realsing how much the little things meant to her.

It had been almost two weeks since her mother left her, but she still had some hope. Anytime she was let out of her room, anytime she walked around the corner of a corridor, anytime she went past the main entrance, she hoped she would see her mother smiling and holding her arms out. This hadn't happened. Not once. It wasn't like her dreams. Her mother hadn't come running back. Maybe that boy was right, about what he said when she first arrived. Maybe she wasn't going home. Maybe this was home, now...

Cheryl's POV

Yesterday I was let out to draw. It was happening again today. The same woman was taking me to the same room. I sat down in the same chair and picked up some pencils.

Next to me was this boy. He looked a bit older, I think. I'd never seen him before. As I was making my picture, he would look at me and laugh, then turn to face his other friends. I don't know why. Maybe he was laughing because he thought my picture was better than his.

I was almost finished with my picture when I heard him say something like "look at her stupid drawing. What even is that?" Then one of his friends joined in and said "It looks like a bunch of scarecrows." I didn't like what they said. It made me sad and angry. They didn't understand my drawing and thought it was bad, so I thought they would like it if I told them who it was.

"Actually that one is my mother." I said, pointing at her. The boy stood up and came closer. He reached his hand over and pointed at someone else on my picture.

"Who's that?" He chuckled.

"That's my brother."

"Why does he have wings? At least, I think those are wings. Are those wings?"

"Yes, they are wings. Mommy said he's up in the sky and with the angels."

"And what about this stupid teddy?" He said and grabbed it. I stood up, feeling even more angry.

"Please give him back." That bear meant a lot to me, so seeing somebody mess with it really made me sad.

"Why should I? Come on now, you need to grow up. You're a big girl." He chuckled. I felt like I wanted to cry.

"Please just give JJ back. Don't hurt him." The boy was taller than me, and put JJ up high so I couldn't reach.

"Oh, this? Is this JJ? You want this? You sure?"

"Back off, Jimmy." A new voice said.

"What was that?" The boy said back. I guessed his name was Jimmy now from what the other person said.

"You heard the girl. Back off and give her bear back to her." A girl said to Jimmy, joining the other boy who told Jimmy to back off. Him and this random girl were helping me. Why? He walked closer to Jimmy.

"Am I supposed to be scare of you? Girl you are tiny." He said to her.

"How about you be scared of me instead?" The one boy said to Jimmy. "You're gonna give that girl her bear back and you are gonna leave her alone. You got that?"

"Okay, jeez sorry." Jimmy gave JJ back to me.

"Good. Now apologize to her." The boy stated. He was looking right at Jimmy. Jimmy then nodded and turned to look at me.

"I'm sorry for taking your stupid bear." He then looked back at the other boy. He seemed scared then he ran away.

"You okay red?" The nice boy asked, putting a hand on my head. I nodded. The girl was standing next to him.

"Thank you."

"No worries. Don't like having bullies in this place." Everybody in the room was looking at me, the girl and the boy that I didn't know. I was confused. I looked back at my drawing and did more of it. I could hear the girl and boy walking away.
