A few days later, Rainbow was talking with Daring outside the Defense Against The Dark Arts classroom, the other students also milling about, waiting for Professor Potter to come. He finally walked up, holding a trunk in his arms.

"Good, you're here. Today, I'm going to teach you the Patronus Charm, so we'll need a boggart-a shapeshifter- to transform into a Dementor."

The trunk in his arms rattled, and he shifted his hold on it.

"This Boggart is a special one that will transform into not your worst fear, but the person you love the most, called a Changeling." He explained, "The Changeling is here because Professor Celestia asked me to contain it, you'll be practicing on a normal one."

"But the Patronus Charm is past NEWT standard!" Twilight exclaimed.

"I managed it in my Third Year, and in my Fifth Year I taught many people of all ages how to do it correctly." Professor Potter said simply, letting them in the classroom. "Now, when I release the other boggart I trapped in my desk drawer, upon seeing me, it will transform into a Dementor. The charm to fend it off is 'Expecto Patronum' but you must think of something happy while you cast it, try a memory you shared with a loved one or a friend."

Professor Potter instructed them as he set the trunk down, pushing it to the back of the room. They all pulled out their wands, and held them up, at the ready.

"You'll find," Professor Potter said, walking among them and correcting their outstretched arms "That when it transforms into a Dementor, it will become very cold and dark in here, and you will feel as though you will never be happy again. This will also call up sad memories, and that is why the Patronus must contain happiness, it repels the Dementor that way. You'll also find it takes willpower and strength of mind, not brains, to cast the Patronus Charm correctly."

He then held up three fingers, one hand on the desk drawer. he lowered them slowly, then yanked open the drawer. A large, hulking figure emerged from the drawer, covered in long, black robes, a hood masking its face.

"All together now." Professor Potter called, then "Expecto Patronum!" rang around the room.

Rainbow struggled to think of any happy memories and decided to recall the day she was accepted into Hogwarts. A fine, wispy, silver mist flew out of her wand, as well as everyone else's. Spitfire, however, was very pale, and collapsed, followed by Daring, and Rainbow felt her vision fading as she heard it

"No! Mommy! We love you, don't go!" then the world went black.

Soarin watched Professor Potter shout

"Riddikulus!"

The Dementor/Boggart tripped over the hem of its black robes and disappeared in a puff of smoke as a few students laughed at it.

"Laughter is what ultimately destroys a Boggart, remember that." He told them, then strode over to the three unconscious girls on the floor, extracting a large chocolate bar from his robes. kneeling down, he gently nudged them. Rainbow and Daring woke first, rubbing their eyes.

"What happened to us?" Daring asked, startled to find herself on the ground. Soarin ran over, Fleetfoot and Twilight beside him

"You passed out!" Soarin exclaimed, and hugged Rainbow "Are you all okay?"

"Yeah, I-I think so." Rainbow responded.

"The Dementor affected you worse than the others, and I think I know why. Tell me, have you ever been through a traumatizing event?" He asked, breaking apart the chocolate as the rest of the class crowded around.

Spitfire was awake now, leaning against Fleetfoot.

"Yes, our mom died when we were four," Daring said, Rainbow nodding agreement.

"Miss Flare?" Professor Potter turned to her, giving the three girls chocolate.

"M-my father used to hurt my brother and I before he went to prison." She confessed

"Your brother is Smoke Flare? Yes, I remember the first time he battled a Boggart-turned-Dementor, it took him much effort to overcome what he heard." Professor Potter agreed.

"Why do they get chocolate?" a Ravenclaw called Starlight Glimmer asked

"Chocolate is known to help those who suffer from the Dementor's powers to recover." Professor Potter told her. "Now, these three were affected most strongly because they have been through worse things than the rest of you."

Professor Potter explained to the class, then stood up.

"You three can sit out if you want, or try again. I also hear very traumatizing things when I'm near Dementors, so I speak from experience when I say you can learn to repel Dementors correctly. You just need to think of a memory so happy it blocks the fear." he told the girls.

All three agreed to try again, eating the chocolate, but the trunk rattled again and burst open. A strange, bug-like creature emerged from it, her hair long and limp. most of the kids screamed and crouched into the corner. Then, another girl came in, saw what was going on, whipped out a wand and shouted:

"Agaipaiaio!"

A blast of light blue light shot to the Changeling, sending it swooping out of the room.

"True love is the only thing that can defeat a Changeling, right Professor?" The girl asked

"Correct Miss Cadenza." Professor Potter responded, and turned to the students "This is Mi Amore Cadenza, or as she is more popularly known, Cadence." He told them

"You're my brother's girlfriend!" Twilight exclaimed, and she nodded

"I heard the commotion on my way to see him, I'd better go." Cadence said, blushing slightly and quickly leaving the room.

Hey, so this chapter introduces Cadence, as promised, and it shows what would happen if a few certain people came into contact with a Dementor. The spell Cadence says is not real in the Harry Potter verse, I made it up. It's a combination of the Greek Translation of the words "Love is eternal." This is a way of saying that only true love can stop a Changeling in the story. So the others are going to play their first Quidditch match and come into contact with their first real Dementor in the next chapter.
