A New Threat

It had been a few months, and Halloween was near. Shining Armor was asleep at his desk, as Rainbow and her friends found out when they walked into Defense Against the Dark Arts. The group giggled and Twilight nudged her brother awake.

"Huh? what time is it?" Shining Armor asked

"Time for your next class Mr. Armor." Professor Potter replied, walking to the desk.

Shining Armor leapt to his feet and ran out of the classroom. Rainbow laughed, then sat down in her desk, Soarin in the seat beside her. As Professor Potter discussed the usefulness of learning basic hexes, a trunk in the corner rattled. 

"Soar, can I ask you something?" Rainbow whispered.

Then, Professer Potter assigned them to read a passage in their books. Soarin nodded, leaning towards Rainbow, who used the silence as an advantage to talk to him.

"So, um...I kinda...like you. As in...like-like you. B-but it's okay if you don't feel the same way, I'm probably just being silly." Rainbow whispered quickly, before she could lose her nerve.

Rainbow then grabbed her book to hide behind. Soarin reached over and pulled the book out of her hands.

"It's not silly, I have a crush on you too Dashie." he whispered.

Rainbow leaned over to hug him. They didn't notice a green smokey shape slipped out of the trunk, leaving through the window.

That weekend, Twilight ran up to them, grabbing Rainbow by the shoulder and shaking her. 

"Rainbow, Daring, Soarin, Spitfire, Fleetfoot! you have to believe me, none of the others will! There's something wrong with Cadence, she's acting different! she's become such a snob and she's doing something to my brother! please, you have to help me!" Twilight cried. Rainbow pulled away from her.

"We only met her once, how are we supposed to help?" Rainbow asked.

Twilight gestured for Rainbow and the others to come closer. Later, they waited outside a classroom.

"I'm sure i saw them go in here, just wait." Twilight whispered

"Are you disagreeing with me?" came Cadence's voice, and Shining Armor's worried tone came next.

"Cadence, of course not, I-I just want to use this book bag because my dad gave it to me when I was in my first year." 

"But Shining, I-I made this especially for you. I'm sure it'll look wonderful with your robes." Cadence replied

"I don't care Cadence, I want to use my dad's." Shining objected. Spitfire glared at Twilight.

"You dragged us down here for this?" she hissed, and Daring nodded

"Yeah, couples have fights all the time Twilight. Rainbow and I's dad has dated plenty of women after mom. They never stuck, but while they were dating, they had fights." Daring agreed.

Then, they heard Cadence again.

"Oh, Shining, are you getting a headache again? Those teachers shouldn't have to make you do all that work, here...Ypoton Elenchomou!" Cadence cried, and green light came out of her wand, hitting Shining Armor's forehead "Better?" she asked sweetly, and he nodded slowly. 

"Oh no." Twilight breathed.

Cadence turned, looking at the door. Twilight gestured for them to leave, and they ran back to the school yard. panting for breath, they all gathered around Twilight in a ragged circle.

"Wh-what was that spell?" Soarin asked, gasping

"It's a greek-based spell, roughly translating to: 'under my control'" Twilight responded

"So, Cadence is hypnotizing Shining Armor?" Rainbow asked

"Yes. let's go tell the others." Twilight said, leading them to the others. when they located the four, they explained what happened.

"Whoa. looks like we've got a new enemy now." Applejack said

"Yeah, what do we do?" Pinkie asked

"I think I have a plan."

That spell? Made it up, but the words are just the Greek pronunciation of "under my control" mushed together to make a two-word spell. Okay, I know what you're all thinking. Yes, I know Discord comes before the Canterlot Wedding two-parter, but I want Discord to be a regular student with a dark side, so he's going to come after this. It'll probably take only one chapter for him appearing and his reformation arc. Sorry for not updating in a while, but just letting you know, might as well get used to that.
