Chapter 5: The New Quidditch Team

"First ever Quidditch match of the season, are you guys excited?" Rainbow asked

"Yeah, this is gonna be awesome! We'll flatten Hufflepuff!" Soarin responded, he'd grown very close to Rainbow ever since she and the other's collapse during Defense Against the Dark Arts.

"I just hope we win!" Spitfire exclaimed, shouldering her broom and leading them outside.

They went into the changing room and got ready. Soarin pulled on the Keeper's Gloves, Shining Armor was a no-show.

"Good luck, all of you." Smoke told them kindly, ruffling his sister's hair. 

They went onto the field, Dark Shooter representing the captain. Professor Weasley blew her whistle and they took off. Soarin flew up to the goal hoops; Daring, Fleetfoot, and Spitfire took up their positions in the center; Dark Shooter and Smoke Flare flanked them; and Rainbow swooped around overhead, ready to find the Snitch. Then, the balls were released, and the game started.

Soarin blocked Hufflepuff's first attempt to score, resulting in cheers from the Gryffindors and Ravenclaws, but groans of disappointment from Hufflepuff and jeers from the Slytherins. The game was being commentated on by Pinkie Pie, who was very chatty but did the job properly anyway.

"And it's sixty-twenty to Gryffindor after a score from Gryffindor Chaser Daring Do!" Pinkie announced, when suddenly a dark, cool mist blew into the stadium.

Rainbow looked around and gripped the handle of her broom hard as she spotted creatures in long cloaks and hooded faces gliding towards the stadium. Daring and Spitfire flew towards Rainbow, farther away from the Dementors.

"Th-those are the real things, aren't they?" Rainbow asked, terrified, and they nodded.

"Whoa! Those look like the Dementors Professor Potter talked about in class! But I don't think the game can stop because of them, because the Hufflepuff Chaser High Winds just scored when the Gryffindor Keeper wasn't looking!" Pinkie called out

"Rainbow, you need to find the snitch! The game won't end until you do!" Spitfire exclaimed, and Rainbow gulped

"O-okay, but it's over there." She pointed to a patch of grass near the Dementors, where a small golden blur was zipping around. 

"You can do this sis, I believe in you." Daring encouraged. Rainbow nodded, then pulled into a nosedive and shot towards the ground.

"I think Gryffindor Seeker Rainbow Dash has seen the Snitch!" Pinkie yelled. Rainbow pulled out her wand and aimed at the Dementors as she passed.

Thinking of the pride in her father's eyes when she and Daring were accepted into Hogwarts, and then of Daring and her friends' shining faces, Rainbow yelled at the top of her lungs:

"Expecto Patronum!"

A silvery animal burst out of her wand and ran towards the oncoming Dementors. Rainbow snatched up the fluttering golden ball and zoomed upwards, her Patronus fading into vapor. 

"Yes! Gryffindor wins!" Pinkie cheered, though it meant a loss for her own house.

But they weren't out of the woods yet, as the team flew over to Rainbow, the Dementors got closer. Rainbow's Patronus, having faded, only pushed them back, they were still coming. 

"Wands out!" Dark Shooter yelled to them and the Hufflepuff team, who were nearby, terrified of the Dementors.

"Expecto Patronum!" Both teams yelled

A mass of silver flew at the Dementors, some clear animals. The Dementors scattered and the animal Patronesses went back to their casters.

Spitfire held out a hand to her Phoenix, which swooped around her before dissolving.

Rainbow's was a Cheetah, they could tell now. Daring's a Wildcat, Fleetfoot's a Falcon, Soarin's an Osprey, Dark Shooter's a Lynx, and Smoke's a Fire Lizard. The other kid's Patronus' were just vapor. As they landed, Professor Potter moved up to them.

"Seven Corporeal Patronuses at once! This is amazing, well done, all of you!" He exclaimed 

"Mine was really cool! a Phoenix, I didn't think they could be real!" Spitfire said

"Albus Dumbledore's Patronus was a Phoenix as well." Professor Potter told her, then Shining Armor finally showed up.

"There you are! Where were you, you missed one of the best matches yet!" Smoke exclaimed

"I was asked by Professor Celestia to contribute to a matter of great importance, and it took longer than expected." Shining replied, then turned "I know you got rid of the Dementors by enlisting the help of the opposing team, which was wrong. I'm afraid you must be banned from the team, we can't have any wavering loyalties." He said

At once outbursts came from all the team members

"That's final!" Shining Armor yelled, and they stormed off, finding High Winds and Surprise of the Hufflepuff team doing the same.

"The Captain just banned us because we were the first to help you guys." High Winds sighed 

"Well it's not fair. The whole point of the game is to have fun, I see that now, and that means everyone gets to play together, whether they're from different houses, or if they fly well or not." Spitfire said determinedly

"But what are we supposed to do about it?" Surprise asked, she and High Winds leaving for their common room. Spitfire fell into silent contemplation after this, not speaking again until the next day.

That Monday morning, after breakfast, they went to History of Magic, and when they finished Transfiguration, they went to lunch. After they returned to the common room, they saw a new poster on the notice board. it read:

Want to join an all-inclusive Quidditch team? Doesn't matter what house you're from, just need to want to play and have fun! Meet on the Quidditch pitch Tuesday, September 3rd after lunch to try out.

Spitfire was grinning broadly, and then explained what she'd done to the others.

"I went to talk with Professor Potter and Professor Weasley, they also agreed it was unfair, and they appealed to Professor Celestia, giving her my idea. these signs went up in all the common rooms during lunch. cool, right?" She asked

"That was awesome! Now we can play again!" Rainbow cheered, and the others all agreed eagerly.

The next day, Spitfire, Rainbow, Soarin, Fleetfoot, Daring, Dark Shooter, and Smoke Flare gathered on the pitch at lunch. Many kids soon joined them, including some that had been reserves on other Quidditch Teams. They chose their own teammates and plenty of others to fly with them.

"I thay we make it a formation flying team altho, that way we don't have to turn people away." Fleetfoot suggested

"Good idea, and Spitfire should be Captain, this was her idea." Rainbow added.

"But what should we name it?" a girl named Misty Fly asked. 

They all talked for a minute before Soarin spoke

"The Harmony Fliers? Since we're a combination of different houses?" He suggested

"That doesn't have the same ring to it, but I bet we could make it the name of a formation." Spitfire said

"What about the Wonderbolts? Because we're gonna bolt through the skies and leave them in wonder!" Blaze said

"Yes!" they all cheered.

Sorry I had to make Shining Armor mean, but Spitfire wouldn't have an excuse to form the Wonderbolts otherwise. Also, I'm going to bring up the Elements of Harmony, they'll be what sparks the idea to incorporate Soarin's idea into a flying formation. By the way, I have two MLP OTPs (One True Parings). They are SoarinDash and Fleetfire (that means Spit and Fleet, sorry if you don't like LGBT ships) I am going to try to incorporate them seeing as they are all eleven as first years. There will be no inappropriate things.

Also, the Fire Lizard I said was Smoke Flare's Patronus is a reference to a book series by Anne McCaffery. The Fire Lizard in the books is like a small dragon with eyes that change color based on mood, they're different colors. Just thought I should make this clear, as there is mention of fire salamanders in the Harry Potter books.
