The night before we plan to escape, I take one last walk up the stairs, out of my body. As I make my way up the stairs, I hear voices of other prisoners.
"I don't wanna die!"
"We'll all burn!"
"What're we gonna do?"
"We need to get out!"
Every voice is fearful and anxious. I continue on. I get to the top and enter the top floor, one last time. When I enter the room, Ghost Girl is standing by the window. I walk over and look out. I see Demi, running on the rooftops. The bandana is still covering her mouth and nose. She no longer has the marks from tears. Her hair is flying behind her. She took the hood off (although it probably flew off). In her hand is a silver dagger. The handle is encrusted with diamonds.
"I may have helped her a bit. You're welcome," Ghost Girl says.
"So, finally giving me an explanation on the whole load of whatever the hell that was last time?" I ask. "Because last time I checked, I don't have an ancient doppelganger who murders entire villages for sport."
"Well, let me talk and maybe I'll explain. First off, he was the original. Just like I was the original."
"Hold up, so you're Demi's doppelganger? So you're Demi too?"
"Yes, now let's me talk. Unless you want to get out of here in pieces and forgotten. What you saw was what I did. Not just to my siblings, who deserved everything they received and more, but to other people, who he said had taken away his family. In truth, his family had been executed because they had been accused of being witches. The father included. They had been caught using fire and ice. It was some kind of trait that got passed down. He was furious, so he started destroying every village he came across. He trained me in many weapons, including swords, axes, and of course, daggers. He always seemed happy, eager to do anything, and even comedic sometimes. But I could see that he was crushed inside. He would train late into the night, just so he could train more in the morning. When he did sleep, he would mumble about 'vengeance' and 'hatred'. He always talked as if he was above everything else. Like he was a god. And then, that arrow hit him. That's when he realized that he needed to join his family. In the end, he never did. He was punished eternally. Every time he dies, he is reincarnated as a rebellious spirit. The only part of himself he doesn't get to keep is his memory. That piece is trapped in my head, trying to mix with my own memories. Neither one of us has lived peacefully. Ever." A single tear streams down her face.
"So, I'm past Pyrre, and me?"
"Well, yes. And the only way to stop the loop is to rebel. Against everything that stands in the way of freedom. Now, any questions?" She wipes the ghostly tears from her face.
"Just one. How does present Demi fit into all this? That's the only part I don't understand."
"Well, every generation of Pyrre has a Demi, so to speak. I honestly don't know why though" She pauses for a minute, then continues. "By the way, if you're going to escape to anywhere, Nytmerius is your best bet. And don't trust Wolfe. At least, don't trust any means of escape he provides. He will take you straight to Queen Serena. Now, go be the rebellion we all need."
I nod. I fly back into my own body. I bolt upright and look around. Everyone else is asleep. I quickly shake Blake awake. Really the only one who's ever been trustworthy. Besides Jacob. Actually, no. Just Blake.
"What's wrong?" He asks as he sees me.
"Get the others up, we need to get out of here. Fast." He nods and starts getting the others up. Once everybody's up, I go over the plan with them.
It's simple. Melt the bars to get out. Once outside, propel everyone up with fire, grab the ledges of the stairs if necessary. Kill any guards that try to stop us. Simple right? Not so much.
After we got out of the cell, three guards immediately turn to us and launch fire at us. I put up a water barrier to stop them. That's when a thought hit me. These guys are all Flameblooded. They can't do a thing! I turn back to the others.
"Keep a barrier up! Their all Flameblooded! They can't do shit!" I yell. They all nod and put up a barrier.
As we reach the middle of the room, we all start pushing ourselves up. I get up about seven floors before I stop and grab the rails on the edge. I look down to see that the only person that made it past the fourth floor is Rei. Rei is on the floor right beneath me, Blake and Jacob are on floor four. And Michael is stuck on floor two. I laugh for a few seconds, and then I notice something. There are no fireballs going up. They're all being lobbed at someone on the ground level. Someone with bright blue hair. A shockwave of fear goes through me as I realize who it is. Demi decided to try to save me.
