It hurts to be in someone else's shadow. It's near unbearable. The pain twists, however, when you yourself are the "someone."
He couldn't understand what had happened to his twin. They had been so close, so why did the others seem to hate him now? He was never good with understanding emotions, even his own. His brother's cold shoulder sent him into a shock. It was a deep despair he couldn't even recognize.
Beforehand, things were fine. Sure, their parents ignored him, as did his teachers. Even the other kids seemed to spite him! Regardless, back then he had someone who cared. Someone who protected him. Someone who understood and could speak out for him when his own words were unable to form.
He regretted ever speaking around his parents. Once they realized he was a genius, he and his twin's roles swapped. His parents showered him with unwanted attention and cast his brother aside. He'd listen to them at parties whenever all they'd do was brag about having such a gifted child. Why did they forget about Hajime? He wished he understood.
To him, Hajime was the most amazing person in the world. That changed after his parents cast the brunette away.
It was odd. His brother's words had gone from caring to bitter in what seemed to be a mere moment. He'd try to give the brunette advice about working harder, which in turn made him angrier. He couldn't understand what he was saying was wrong, and making it seem he belittled his twin. However, his brother still seemed to care.
He made sure that he took care of himself, showered, ate, and brushed his hair. He was much softer when he brushed his hair, he always had been. He, himself, hated when anyone else touched his hair though. Their mother would always tug at it and be quite rough, even attempting to cut it once.
Sometimes strangers would attempt to touch it. He was a child in a man's body. He was too scared to say no because he didn't know what would happen. Even though he and his brother were now grown, they were as distant as ever, and that he hated.
He was accepted into his brother's dream school while his brother was not. He gained the confidence to request his parents pay for Hajime to get into the reserve course. They only agreed because he was the one asking, it seemed.
Though, it still didn't seem to be enough for his green-eyed brother's maybe he was reluctant to show any happiness or gratitude? He couldn't tell what was going on in the other's head.
He never could.
