After it was certain no one was around, Nagito set himself on the strawberry themed swings that were inside the funhouse. At first, he used only his foot to swing himself forwards and back gently. After testing the waters and being assured the swings were safe and he was indeed alone, he adventured slightly farther. He allowed himself to swing back and forth on the strawberry set of swings ever so slightly. He wasn't going very high, it would take a while before he allowed himself to do that. It was in these moments he found an odd feeling of peace. A type of peace that he hadn't expected to find while doing something so simple and mundane.
Even then, he felt anxiety bubble up in the back of his head at the thought of his bad luck making a move. Whether the set of swings would crash to the ground or one of his unsuspecting classmates walking in on his childish act. Beforehand he was sure the others would yell at him and be angry with him if he dared touch the piece of equipment. But before his thoughts could fully spiral and erase any feeling of peace he had, footsteps were heard. Oddly enough he didn't stop, as he was curious to see if the theory he had on his classmate's reactions were correct.
Sure enough, he soon met the gaze of none other than Hajime Hinata. His expression was slightly confused but blank. Nagito tried to search to see if there was any disgust in the brunette's eyes but to no avail. He wondered what the best course of action was at this point.
He was under the impression that his classmate would leave, likely not having interest in him or the swings. So he focused his attention on one of the many moving strawberries that were on the wall. His eyes followed as it moved at a steady speed. After the strawberry disappeared from sight, he glanced back to where Hajime had originally been standing. Instead of seeing him gone as he expected, the other boy seemed to be observing the slide with a stern look. Nagito wasn't quite sure what the other was doing, could he be lost in thought? Regardless, he didn't want to disturb him so he kept quiet.
It was rather embarrassing to be acting so childish in front of an ultimate, he started to wonder if he should get off the swing. Granted that might make it worse, what if Hajime didn't what him out of his sight? Most of the other ultimates seemed to be suspicious of him, some seemed to keep tabs on him often, though he wasn't sure why. As far as he was concerned, the ultimates shouldn't waste their time on him. After all, he was merely a stepping stone to them, at least, that's how he saw it.
"I didn't expect to find you here"
The sudden voice made the albino jump. He looked over at the brunette and smiled. "Find me here? Hinata-kun, were you looking for me?" he asked, laughing lightly.
"Not necessarily..." he said, sounding rather on edge.
"I can leave if you'd like," Nagito offered.
"No, no, you don't need to do that. Besides, you were here first," Hajime sounded rather stern and serious, further making Nagito question his intentions.
"Wouldn't that be a better reason for me to leave though? I have been here longer, while you have not. Therefore you should have a chance to be here," he paused. "That is if you'd like."
Hajime shook his head, "No need. I mean, I'll just sit with you if that's alright."
Nagito took note that Hajime's face slightly flushed when he spoke. It was likely he too saw this situation as rather awkward and didn't know what to do."Sure thing!" Nagito replied, hoping that the tension in the air would soon release.
Hajime scanned the area before making his way to Nagito and sitting on the seat next to him. He looked up and saw Nagito swing rather high, but not high enough for it to be dangerous. "I'm taking it that you like swings?" Hajime asked, mentally facepalming for asking such a stupid question.
"Ah, yes, I do. It's relaxing, going back and forth helps me think sometimes," Nagito said as he slowed down his swinging ever so slightly. "Sometimes it leads to overthinking about my luck and the probability of my bad luck striking, but overall it's rather peaceful. I used to really enjoy it when I was younger, but I stopped after the third grade or so."
"Really? Why's that?" The brunette couldn't help but ask.
"I was swinging when another kid came and pushed me off. I guess I had overstayed my welcome," Nagito looked up as he spoke. "His group of friends cheered him on while he swung. It wasn't long though before the chains snapped and he fell to the ground. Luckily he only scraped his knee, not that it stopped him from crying."
"I- I don't get it? Why would that make it so you didn't enjoy swings?!" Hajime asked dumbfounded, certain it was just a coincidence.
"Ah Hinata-kun, isn't it obvious? My bad luck only brings misfortune to others, certainly, If I dared swing again someone else could get just as hurt if not more," he then smiled. '"It's a good thing you aren't high up as of now! I'd hate for the chains on your swing to break when you're high up. Honestly, there's a chance the bar above us might fall, avoid me, and hit you. Maybe you should get up and stand in a corner as to not get hurt," sweat dripped down the side of his face as he spoke.
Hajime looked conflicted but then shook his head once more. "Nothing will happen to me Komaeda, so don't worry."
At this point, Nagitos swinging had slowed immensely.
"Oh? Are you sure about that? Do you really wish to test my luck with your safety?" he asked, with a raised eyebrow.
Hajime furrowed his eyebrows as he looked over at Nagito.
"Yes."
"Yes? What, do you believe yourself to have a talent that defies luck?" Nagito seemed to question even more.
"I-... I don't know okay? Can we just change the topic?" Hajime asked, seeming rather annoyed. It was at this point the author lost any idea of further dialogue. Or story progression for that matter.
Nagito looked uncertain but complied. "You know Hinata-kun, I really wish this place has a carousel!"
"Wouldn't a carousel be too big?" Hajime asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Not necessarily, I've seen rather small carousels before. I'm sure there are ones small enough that could fit here rather than the playground equipment."
"I see... Is... there a reason you want a carousel here of all things?"
"Of course! It's much like swings only far more relaxing! Being on a carousel is the safest feeling in the world, and unless the inside blows up, there's no way my luck can affect anyone or anything!" He practically gasped. It was like talking to a child about their favorite superhero, in a way. He sounded very excited as if this was the first time he'd told anyone about it.
Hajime thought for a minute. "You know... there is a carousel in the theme park. If we get out of here alive, I'm sure monomi or monokuma could make it run for you."
"I noticed that! In a way, it gives me something to look forward to! If I live that is," he smiled while looking at Hajime, with a finger on his chin. "Whether I die here or live, they both have such wonderful outcomes! I just hope to not die of starvation, as that would be a pointless death."
His eyebrows furrowed slightly as he smiled and spoke.
"Anything but a pointless death, don't you agree, Hinata-kun?"
Kay I wrote 1411 words, couldn't think of an ending, so I went with that. Apart of me feels like I lost some of the characterizations at the end but I dunno, maybe I'm just tired.
