I woke up with the sun in my eyes; Garrus was still asleep, snuggled next to me and he didn’t seem like he would wake up anytime soon. I sneaked out of the bed, trying not to disturb him, and walked to the kitchen. I put the dishes in the dishwasher and decided to make breakfast for Garrus. I opened the fridge, and I remembered he said he had nothing in it… it was indeed empty. I fetched the datapad he left on the coffee table and searched for the number of a supermarket with delivery- then I looked for turian breaksfast recipes on the extranet. I found something that looked good and easy, and I wrote down the ingredients and the directions. I called the supermarket, and in a few minutes all the things I’d ordered where in the apartment- Garrus was still asleep, luckily- I wanted to surprise him.

I’m not the best cook in the world, but I can defend myself especially if I have a recipe to follow. The food was smelling wonderful, so much I even dared to taste it- I had no allergic reaction, fortunately. I made pancakes for myself and some coffee- dextro and non dextro- and went back to the room, to see if Garrus was awake. He wasn’t, but… I didn’t want to let his breakfast go cold- I woke him up with a soft kiss. He looked at me through sleepy eyes

“Am I still dreaming?” he said.

“No, I’m right here, Garrus” I said, kissing him again. He hugged me and snuggled next to me.

“Do I smell breakfast?...” he asked.

“why don’t you go and find out” I said, teasingly- I unwrapped myself from his arms and led him to the kitchen, where the table was set for two.

“How… did you make all this? There was no food in the fridge” he sat down in front of his breakfast plate and had a forkful

“I have my ways” I said, grabbing a pancake and smirking.

“This is delicious, Shepard. But, you shouldn’t have… I… you’re the one who needs to rest, I’m supposed to be taking care of you.” He held one of my hands.

“You’ve done so much for me already, Garrus- it’s only fair I return the favour. You were next to me all those months, you didn’t sleep or eat properly during that time...” I squeezed his hand.

“You’re better than I deserve” he said, then kissed my hand. “You’re amazing, Shepard”.

“All I did was make breakfast” I said, chuckling. “You sat by my bed for almost a year, I think that beats breakfast.”

“Well, if you put it that way… I guess you owe me big time, Shepard”

“I’ll make it up to you, I promise” I said, smirking. Of course I would make it up to him, in many different ways. Eventually.

“What would you like to do later?” he asked. “It wouldn’t be wise to leave the apartment yet, but there’s plenty we can do here”

“Like what?” I asked, then I had a gulp of coffee.

“We could… watch a vid? Maybe play video games? James gave me a console with games, I haven’t touched the thing. But I know you like video games, we used to play all the time”

“Video games sound great, we could make a whole day out of it” I remembered the feeling, but I didn’t remember actually playing something. “Do I have a favourite?”

“Well, we used to play this human fantasy game, it had dragons” he said “We made a great dragon slaying team”

“Just like in real life, only we killed husks and brutes instead” I joked. Then I remembered something, it came to me like a flash, many flashes actually. Garrus and I were fighting together in each one of those flashes- he watched my back as I carelessly run into the fight, charging like a damn krogan. “Damn it Shepard!, be careful!” “Watch your back Shepard” “Not again, Shepard!” His voice sounded more worried than angry in my memories. My head started to hurt a little.

“Shepard, are you all right?” Garrus said, he sounded concerned. “You spaced out for a while there”

“I… was having flashbacks” I said, touching my head. “The video game talk we were having triggered some memories”

“Were they good memories?”

“Mostly you nagging me for charging against foes without watching my back” I said, nudging him.

“You scared me to death every single time, Shepard, Spirits” He said, hugging me “ I spent most of the time watching your back more than mine, got shot a couple of times while at it”

“I’m sorry I put you through that” I said, I really was.

“It’s ok, I would have done it even if you hadn’t put yourself in danger like that” he shrugged lightly. “I couldn’t help it, I’m a concerned boyfriend” he chuckled and kissed me lightly on the cheek.

“I’m lucky Archangel is my boyfriend” I teased. “It’s like being a superhero’s girlfriend”

“Tell me about it, I’m the saviour of the Galaxy’s boyfriend- talk about superheroes.” He teased back. “Teasing aside, I’m glad you’re recovering some memories… maybe we should do more things to bring them back, I don’t mind re-enacting a couple of things here and there. You know, for science” he smirked.

“I’m not ready for certain things just yet” I blushed against my will and I felt embarrassed.

“Don’t worry, we won’t do anything you’re not comfortable with… but, I had to try.”
