Caleb P.O.V.
"You look beautiful tonight," I whispered in Veronica's ear.
We were in the car headed to the charity gala. Zoey and Cecilia had gone on a mother daughter date tonight also. I was glad they were getting to spend some quality time together.
"When is Zoey getting out of my house?" Veronica said changing the subject.
"Baby we've talked about this," I said as I rolled my eyes and looked out the window.
"No we haven't! You just told me she had no place to go and you wanted to make our home her personal hotel! Caleb her presence in our home makes me uncomfortable. Why doesn't that matter to you? I think as the woman of the house and your soon to be wife, you should acknowledge my concerns," Veronica explained.
"Veronica she won't be staying with us long and she isn't bothering you. Baby come on. Where is the confident woman I fell for?" I questioned as I turned to her.
"Caleb you just don't get it! When she's around and Cecilia's there it's like you're a little family. When I walked into the kitchen and saw the three of you it hurt. Our home is suppose to be my safe place and now Zoey has invaded it," Veronica said sadly.
I reached for Veronica's hand and kissed her fingertips.
"Why does Zoey threaten you so much?" I asked.
"Are you still in love with her?" Veronica asked bluntly.
"She's the mother of my child. I'll always have love for her," I said honestly.
"That's not what I asked! I asked if you were in love with her! So are you still in love with her Caleb? Do you ever think about having a life with her instead of me?" Veronica asked sounding insecure.
"Where is all this coming from? Have I not shown my commitment to you? For goodness sake you're the one with an engagement ring on your finger not Zoey! Zoey's married to a whole other man! We've both moved on!" I said getting frustrated with this conversation.
"Why are you getting so defensive?" Veronica asked.
"Why are you pushing this so much? She's my child's mother and nothing more. You're the woman I'm marrying so can we drop this subject," I said.
"I want us to make things official then. Go to the courthouse and legally become husband and wife. Then I'll finish planning our wedding ceremony," Veronica said.
"Why do we need to have a courthouse wedding? Why not wait until our wedding day to legalize everything," I said.
"Caleb knowing that I'm your wife in name will just make me more comfortable. At least then I know you're really mine and I'm yours forever," Veronica said.
"Veronica I am yours. You have no reason to think differently. I'm not going anywhere I promise," I said.
The driver pulled up outside of the gala. I opened the car door and got out.
I held my hand out for Veronica.
She got out of the car and we went to walk the red carpet.
I didn't want my wife to be feeling insecure about our future. She needed to relax and trust in what we had.
Zoey doesn't want me so Veronica just needed to focus on planning our wedding and forget about what ever threat she thought Zoey could be to our happily ever after.
After taking a few photos on the red carpet we went inside the venue.
We got a couple drinks and walked around speaking to different people.
