The doorbell rung as I put my phone on the coffee table. I made sure my voice recording app had started.

My plan was simple.

I just needed to get Courtney to let her guard down and confess all she'd been up to lately.

I needed her to admit to setting me up.

I opened the front door and Courtney stood there in a oversized sweater some ripped jeans and some heels. Her hair was in a high ponytail and her makeup was natural.

She looked pretty I couldn't lie. But she never didn't look good.

"I have to say I'm actually surprised you called," Courtney said as I stood back.

I let her into my home and she took a look around.

"Nice place. I see you've done well for yourself," Courtney said as I closed the front door.

"Yeah. But it's a huge place... it gets lonely sometimes," I said as I took her hand.

I led Courtney into my living room and led her over to the couch.

"Should I get us some drinks?" I asked.

"Sure..." she said.

"Wine?" I asked.

"Actually water will do," Courtney said.

"Ok," I said.

I grabbed us a couple bottles of water from the fridge then made my way back to the living room.

I sat down on the couch beside her as I handed her a bottle of water.

"Thanks," she said as she opened the bottle and took a drink.

"You're welcome," I said as I sat my bottle of water on the coffee table.

"I ran into your bitch yesterday..." Courtney said as she looked dead in my eyes.

"My bitch?" I questioned.

"That whore Zoey... the one you had a baby with," she said with a jealous eye roll.

"Oh... what was she talking about?" I asked.

"Nothing. Just rubbing in my face that you're with her," Courtney said.

"She was lying. I'm not with her... I'm single," I said.

"You are?" Courtney questioned with a hint of excitement.

"Yeah... I've been single for a minute now," I said as I reached over and placed my hand on Courtney's thigh.

"Well why didn't you call me sooner?" she asked as she moved in closer to me.

"I don't know. I didn't think you'd want to be with me if I wasn't trying to get drugs," I said.

"Caleb you know I loved our arrangement but I'm fine hooking up sober too," she said as she placed her hand on my knee.

"Have you been sober?" I asked.

"Since Stewart's death... yes on and off though. I have my days when I just need an escape. But who knows if I had you around maybe I wouldn't need the drugs," Courtney said as she moved over and straddled my lap.

"Court what are you doing?" I asked as I placed my hands to her hips.

"Caleb I've missed you. Things have been so hard lately and I just need you," she said as she pecked my lips.
