It doesn't take us too long to get back home. I don't drive a lot. Gran insisted I get my license, but I never go anywhere often. I'm glad I have a license today though. It was needed.
Trinity uses the remote to open the garage while I pull into the driveway. I notice immediately the pacing Oliver, who barely noticed the garage door moved. He was definitely worried and I couldn't blame him, but he seemed angry too.
We pull in and I park the car. Before I could take the key out of the ignition, Oliver opens Trinity's door.
"Oliver. Are you okay--"
"What happened," he says frantically, interrupting Trinity. Trinity frowns, looking back to make sure Elizabeth was still asleep before sighing.
"I-I don't know. One sec-minute they-they were just running around. Being kids. You know," she stumbles. Oliver seemed more frustrated with each of her stutters which is only making her stumble more. She was visibly uncomfortable with the situation and I don't blame her.
"I didn't see what happened. I mean I kind of know what happened. We went to the aquarium. Ate. Mrs. Anastasia was talking to Cam. I don't know about what or why. It didn't seem important to listen in on. A girl from my class was talking to him and well, I just kind of saved him. Tom was happy the entire time and then he just wasn't," she finishes. I blink a few times, my brain processing her ramble.
"How could you let this happen? Weren't you watching them," he stated, his words full of judgment. His jaw was clenched tightly, the vein on his neck throbbing, looking ready to pop. He was seriously angry at Trinity for something that wasn't her fault. Trinity looks away from his accusatory glare and lowers her head. I didn't have to see her face to know that she was trying to sink into herself and disappear.
"You can't even keep up with two 12-year-olds? It's simple. Keep your eyes on them. What? Were you too busy ogling this asshole instead? Is that it," Oliver accuses. Trinity's face flushes as she tries to blink back tears. Now I'm furious too.
"That's enough Oliver," I growled. Oliver finally looks over to me and narrows his eyes even more.
"Stay over there. This is a family conversation and you're not invited," he said with complete assertion and a smirk, before turning back to Trinity. My eye twitches at his words and I feel my blood begin to boil. I open my door and step out. I don't care anymore what he thinks of me. I'm honestly sick of his shit anyway.
I make my way to the passenger side door, side stepping in front of Oliver so now he has to face me. He straightens his figure, slightly taller than me but did that really matter? Height doesn't eliminate you from getting your ass beat. This was undeniably a bad idea, and I'm kind of pissed that it has to come to this, but it needs to be said.
"Too bad, because I'm already here".
Oliver clenched his jaw before crossing his arms over his chest.
"Since you want to act like you're the shit, where the hell were you when all of this happened? Sketching a damn fish, or flirting with someone who's out of your league," he seethes, his eyes glancing to the hidden silhouette of Trinity.
"I was actually with Gran. You know, my grandmother. Blood relation included. She didn't seem to be feeling well. I was about to help her when Elizabeth screamed," I answered.
"And since I answered your question, it's your turn to answer mine. Where the hell were you when all this happened"?
"I was at work," he claimed quickly. I already knew this, but I still had a point to prove.
"That's very irresponsible of you to go to work instead of watching the twins. What right do you have to not be watching them? And you call yourself family," I mock. Oliver's entire body twitches as he seems to be holding in his unwarranted anger. I didn't care.
