I've made it a habit to go to my room when everyone is loud and I'm trying to focus, but today, it was practically impossible to not overhear all the yelling.
"I can't believe you. Why--"
"Trinity, I'm sorry," Oliver says.
"-- would you say you could take me and then take someone's shift on the same day," she says, enraged.
"I forgot. I didn't even think it was that much of a big deal to you," Oliver argues back. I hear Trinity scoff.
"It's prom. How is that not a big deal," Trinity replies.
Oliver is silent for a second, his loss for another excuse apparent.
"Look, Trinity. I'm sorry, but I can't take you. The fact is, prom isn't a mandatory event and you can always go next year. I need this job, okay? So can you just get over it, because no matter what you say, I honestly can't take you and you know Gran won't let you go alone," Oliver explains, his tone giving off vibes of finality. Trinity is quiet.
Suddenly, I hear footsteps pace down the hall before stopping at my door. Without so much as a knock, my door is opened and Trinity walks in until she's standing in front of me.
"Will you go to prom with me," she asks quickly. Her eyes were narrowed and her tone sharp. It was slightly intimidating but very refreshing.
"Okay."
It was all I could manage to say. Trinity nods triumphantly before spinning on her heels and out my room. I follow suit shortly after, kind of wondering what I just got myself into.
"Enjoy your work shift, Olly. I'll be at prom with Cameron," she smiles past him as she goes to her room. Her door slams shut behind her, causing Gran to laugh as she walked by. Oliver looked stunned as he stared at Trinity's closed door, probably wondering why the situation panned out like this. His attention turns to me now, but instead of the usual glares, he stares at me confused.
"I can never win," he mutters before scratching his head and walking to his room.
I head back to my room too. My head was now filled with thoughts of prom. I've never been myself, so I'm not sure how this will go. I'm probably not the best date-- not the best companion to be around at a formal event, especially if I'm with Trinity. She might be more comfortable taking Liza, although neither of them has their license yet.
I sigh deeply as I throw myself on my bed. I had a few days to actually worry about any of this so I'll just take this time to relax--
Or not.
My phone chimed and I already knew who it was from the notification tone. I check my phone, ready to just screenshot Austin's message and be done, but my blood froze when I read it.

"Cameron, I need you to go on a few errands for me," Gran says. I get up off the couch and walk over to Gran as she looks over the checklist in her hands. "I'd go myself, but I'm afraid my legs forgot how to move," she laughs.
It's very concerning that every time she's in pain she tries to laugh it off even though we all know it never goes away.
I take the paper out of her hand.
"You don't have to explain why Gran. I was going to go anyway," I state softly, still coming to terms with what she told me on Tuesday. She smiles up at me before going over the list with me. First, I needed to fill up on gas first, then get the flower bundle for our new neighbors, and pick up some stuff from the dry cleaners.
