The gloomy sky has been crying since that morning and he didn’t think that the dark clouds would clear anytime soon. The wind was also blowing ever so slightly from the west that it brought a slightly chilly atmosphere at that holy place where he was at.
It was really not a good time and place for a meet-up but what could he do? He couldn’t just meddle in people’s lives. He could only observe from afar...
From where he was standing, he could see the two people he’s been tasked to look after. They were talking and it looked like things were going just as planned. Yeah, it was going so well that he just chuckled and shook his head when he got the expected reaction from the two.
Just like what we’ve been expecting. Very predictable.
He sighed when they both disappeared from his line of sight. He decided against following them. He should just trust fate on this one and let it take its own course.
Let Thy will be done.
He sighed again and then looked at the overcast skies. It was still raining but he wasn’t feeling cold, so, he took his time looking at that holy place as he carefully picked his way towards the center. He looked around him and at the graves surrounding him. It was so silent and peaceful, contrary to what people always thought.
It was not a place to be afraid of. It’s a place that needs to be respected. It’s a holy ground for those who have already left the mortal world, not a place for ghosts and terrors. Humans should stop thinking of worthless fears and should just concentrate on strengthening their faiths. They should be wary of their souls’ fate, not of harmless, lost souls that stray on the face of the earth.
Humans… they always make life complicated when in the first place, it shouldn’t be… They just make their own fears. Pity.
The wind whistled around him and with a final look, he turned on his heels and started to walk out of the holy place.
Now, let’s visit my other ward...
He stuffed his hands in his pockets and casually continued his strides until his surroundings started to change and the graveyard gave way to a white place bustling with people going to and fro. The place was on full alert as victims of a bus accident started to pile in the Emergency room on stretchers and wheelchairs. Wails, cries and moans filled the place as doctors and nurses swarmed the injured. The smell of antiseptic also assaulted his nose, but the smell of sickness and death hung in the air.
He looked around solemnly and decided to stop for a while to observe. He entered the Emergency room and leaned on a wall to the side where he could see the whole scenario. He cocked his head to the side as his attention landed on a doctor pumping a bloody kid back to life.
“I’ll make a bet. That boy will be engulfed by the white light any moment now.”
A smirk worked up on his lips as he glanced sideways at a teenage boy who had also leaned against the wall beside him. The boy was skinny and on the pale side. He had a mop of dark hair that reached his dark, solemn eyes and his determined face was set arrogantly, confident of what he was saying.
"And I'll make you a bet. That boy will live."
As soon as the last word left his mouth, they heard a beeping sound. Steady and rhythmical - A sign of a functional, living heart. His smirk gave way to a full blown smile as he watched the teenager's eyes grew wide at what had just happened. Dark, accusing eyes whipped into his gray ones as the teenager gaped at him.
"Why do you always know what will happen? I always lose to you. Are you sure you're not cheating?"
A hearty laugh came out of him as he guided the boy out of the Emergency room and into the hallway.
