You sighed as you read your book.
"What's troubling you this time?" Gaius, your mentor asked.
"The execution that's happening outside." you responded. Gaius sighed at your words.
"Y/N, you know that it is against the law to practice magic." Gaius told you for what seemed to be the hundredth time.
"That man was doing no harm! He doesn't deserve to die!" you exclaimed. Gaius let out another sigh. You were very sensitive when it came to magic. You were born with it and had no control over that, yet if you were found with it you'd be executed. You hated how unfair the king was. Gaius gave you a look that told you to drop it, and then he went back to looking through the shelves of books to find what he was looking for, while you went back to reading your book. As you were reading you heard a wailing noise from outside. You winced, you assumed that that noise meant that the man was dead. A few moments later you heard a male's voice.
"Hello?" he called. A male your age walked in.
"Hello? Gaius?" he cleared his throat.
You and Gaius turned to look at him. You heard a breaking noise and turned to see Gaius falling from his spot. You felt your heart drop and panic shoot through you. Before you could do anything Gaius' fall slowed and a mattress slid underneath him. Gaius landed on it unharmed and you turned to the boy just to see his eyes change from gold to blue.
'Magic.' Was the first thought that came to your mind, as you stared wide eyed at the boy.
"What did you just do?!" Gaius yelled at the boy.
"Erm....." The male muttered, obviously trying to think of an excuse.
"Tell me!"
"I-I-I have no idea what happened."
"If anyone had seen that..."
"Er, no! That-that was- that was nothing to do with me. That-that was..."
"I know what it was! I just want to know where you learned how to do it!"
"Nowhere."
"So how is it you know magic?"
"I don't."
"Where did you study? Answer me!"
"I–I've never studied magic or, or been taught."
"Are you lying to me, boy?"
"What do you want me to say?"
"The truth!"
"I was born like this!" Your eyes widened at his words. You thought that you were the only one.
"Who are you?" you asked. Gaius and the boy jumped, they had completely forgotten your presence.
"Oh...erm..." The boy took his backpack off of his shoulders and turned to Gaius with a letter.
"I have this letter." he said, giving it to Gaius.
I-I don't have my glasses on." Gaius said as he took it.
"I'm Merlin." The boy said, and you immediately remembered that he was supposed to be here today. Gaius had told you that he was coming and that he would help you with your duties.
"Hunith's son?"
"Yes!"
"But you're not meant to be here till Wednesday!"
"It is Wednesday." You and Merlin said at the same time.
"Ah. Right, then. You better put your bag in there."
