They both heard yelling from behind coming from none other than the men who want them.
Mike turned his head around and noticed they were headed in their direction. He grabbed Peter and shoved him behind a bush and put his hand over Peter's mouth to keep him quiet. Peter closed his eyes and stayed quiet.
Peter looked up at Mike who had also shut his eyes, praying they wouldn't be found.
"Go check behind those bushes!" One of them managed to say.
Now Mike and Peter looked at eachother and Mike whispered to Peter: "We gotta go man." Mike grabbed Peter and sprinted out of their hiding spots. As they began to run away, they were spotted by one of them and heard him yell: "THERE!!"
Mike turned around to see 6 guys started running toward them. The two monkees began to run as fast as they could so they didn't get caught.
"Mike?"
"Keep running Peter! We need to get to a safe place." Mike said as he looked around and he spotted a very dark cave. "There!" He pointed over to the cave as the two ran towards it and ran inside. It looked to be abandoned. Peter and Mike went deep into the cave so they wouldn't be spotted.
"Do you think we're safe here?"
"We should be for now Pete. Unless they saw us go in here. They were pretty far behind so I doubt they saw us."
Mike and Peter watched as the 6 men who were chasing them, ran passed the cave without even stopping. Mike took a deep breath and sat down slowly. They had to stay there for a little while.
"See Pete? I told you we were going to be alright." He gave a fake smile.
"Yeah. But you failed to mention that we would be running for our lives." Peter too sat down. They both were hurting and tired from running for a long period of time.
3 hours later
Peter and Mike were now asleep. They were wiped out and exhausted that they couldn't help but pass out after running all that time not to mention they were in a dark cave.
Mike had woken up and was a bit groggy. He put his hand up to his head thinking that his wool hat was up there but it wasn't. Once he realized he probably dropped it somewhere, he sighed. It was already dark outside and Mike was beginning to wonder how long he had been asleep.
Peter also began to wake up. He heard Mike shuffling around and he sat up. "What time is it?"
Out of habit, Mike tried to look at his wrist where his watch is, but it was too dark to see. "I'm not sure Pete. Its too dark to check the time."
"So, what are you doing Mike?"
"Just checking. I don't think they're coming back. So, when daylight breaks, we can leave."
"Okay. Sounds good to me. Sleeping like this is just hurting my back."
"Yeah I feel ya Peter. But its all we got for now." Mike said walking back to Peter and sat down next to him. "So, since we are here, tell me something, what is you're plan to get that girl to notice you?"
"Really Mike? Back to that?"
"Well, it'll help pass the time. Just humor me."
"I don't even know where to find her Mike. I only saw her one time and it was when we were just taking a drive. I don't know her name, or where she was going."
"Well, you need a plan to find out where she is going to be and where you can find her again."
"Okay but can we talk about this at the pad instead of here?"
Mike gave a small nod. Then he realized that Peter couldn't see the nod so he spoke up: "Sure Pete. Trust me, we will get out of here alive. When we exit the cave, we don't know who we're going to run into and we don't know if they're coming back to the woods to look for us. They just might if they really believe that we are somewhere here."
"Okay. I hope we don't run into them Mike." Peter looked down now understanding why Mike had so much stress on him lately. "Now, I know Mike."
"Know what Pete?"
"I know why you have been under stress lately."
"It shows huh? I'll admit, I have been under stress for the past 4 weeks and yes, this is the exact reason why."
"I'm sorry Mike. I'm sorry you are put in this situation again."
"Peter, its not you're fault. You know that right? Its my fault as well. I should never have eavesdropped to that conversation 10 years ago. Don't worry Pete. We will make it through this."
"I believe you Mike."
"Why don't you get back to sleep buddy? You need it before we go on the long journey home."
"What about you? Aren't you going to get any sleep?"
"Nah. I'm not tired buddy. Don't worry about me. Worry about yourself."
As Peter went back to sleep, Mike practically stayed guard (if that's what you wanna call it). Mike sighed. He was unaware of the time so he didn't know how much longer until it was daylight outside.
After what seemed like forever, Mike finally passed out against the wall of the cave with his arms crossed.
Peter woke up several hours later to finally see daylight. He looked over at Mike was still in the same position when he fell asleep against the wall of the cave. Peter approached him and shook his shoulder and he heard Mike mumble: "No mom. I don't wanna go to school today."
"Mike? Its Peter. Wake up."
It took a minute for Mike to open his eyes. He was too exhausted to even wake up but he did. "Pete? What time is it?"
Peter grabbed Mike's wrist and looked at his watch. "Its 8:30. We need to go. We already lost 2 hours of daylight because we were sleeping. Come on." Peter grabbed a hold of both of Mike's arms and helped him up.
"I'm up Peter." Mike kinda slurred his words when he spoke.
"Once we get to running, I'm sure you'll be wide awake."
"Running? I thought we were going to walk. And the only time we were going to run is when they are after us."
Peter slapped Mike to wake him up. It worked. "Hey! What did you do that for Pete? I already told you that I'm awake."
"Yeah but you weren't awake all the way Mike. Now you are."
"Okay. Let's go Pete."
"There's the Mike I know." Peter said with a grin.
They exited the cave and Peter looked up at the clouds. It looked like it was going to storm. That got him worried. It did start to rain a little bit but it wasn't pouring yet and that's what Mike expected. He didn't want to get poured on, especially when they were in the middle of no where and they both have no idea where home was.
Peter heard some voices from behind again and they began shouting as Mike and Peter were both spotted by the men trying to kill them and they began running again.
Its like they can never get a break. Mike did know they were going to be back in the same woods to continue their search!
